Round 4 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By JACK BURNS

Oak Park v Hillside

THE Sharks will travel to JP Fawkner Reserve this Saturday in what is sizing up to be a very juicy contest against a solid Oak Park outfit.

Fresh off a gutsy seven-point win against Glenroy and a break, the Oakers will be raring to serve up their very best and consolidate a top four spot in the early stages of the Essendon Ford Division 1 season.

Hillside will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run, beginning to prove their anticipated superiority in the competition.

Well-sought after forward Brandon Coletta ticked over his goal tally with another three against East Keilor alongside Rocky Ferraro, who also bagged an influential three in his return to senior footy after being under a two-year injury cloud.

Oak Park’s Nathan Sciberras, Liam Molloy and Ryan Harris led the way with two goals each, followed by six more goal-scorers, proving their wide range of attacking ability against the Roys back in Round 2.

A tough test for both sides, in what will be a physical and fast-paced game of football.

Hadfield v Taylors Lakes

The Lions will be full of confidence after attaining their first win of the season against a strong Tullamarine side.

Today they visit a winless Hadfield at Martin Reserve.

Struggling to hit the scoreboard in a frequent fashion, Hadfield have been defeated convincingly on all three outings to date.

Taylors Lakes are finally up and running in what has been a frustrating start to the season, sitting at 1-2.

Leading the way for the Lions, Adrian Longo slotted three majors and proved a threat to Tullamarine with his blistering pace and silky skills.

Sam Tankard’s men will come out all guns blazing in an attempt to knock over their second victory of the season.

Hadfield will likely find it difficult to muster up a win in what looks to be a one-sided affair.

East Keilor v Airport West

A hungry and rampant East Keilor will host Airport West this week after an 11-point loss to top-of-the-table Hillside.

Proving their worthiness of a top four spot this season, the Cougars fell to an unfortunate defeat against the Sharks last week.

Young gun Peter Tsavdaridis owned the far wing at Shark Park, slotting two goals and providing a wealth of speed and skill to his team.

Airport West have aspirations of maintaining their top two position and they will charge in confidently after a 142-point win against an undermanned Hadfield side.

Eleven goal-kickers led by a bag of five for Jarrod Atkinson saw the Eagles run away comfortably as they showcased their composure and class with the football.

Do not expect East Keilor to budge today, as they will put the Eagles to the ultimate test in a fiery contest at Overland Reserve.

Tullamarine v Glenroy (Sunday)

The Roys are up and about following their triumphant ANZAC Day win against rivals Westmeadows and are expecting nothing short of the same at Leo Dineen Reserve in a highly-anticipated affair with the Demons.

Tullamarine fell short to Taylors Lakes away from home last week, and will have strong desires to get back on track in front of their home fans.

Glenroys’ focal point Adam Winter had a good day at the office on Tuesday kicking four goals and helping his side overcome the young and vibrant Westmeadows, but he didn’t finish the game due to a hamstring complaint.

Jack Sims’ three majors weren’t enough to put away a relentless Taylors Lakes, however he showed some real form in front of the big sticks alongside his eight other teammates who were able hit the scoresheet.

This will be a battle of two long-standing Essendon Ford Division 1 powerhouse clubs, where there will be a mutual intent to come away with a massive win.
