Coburg Districts v Moonee Valley
WITH both teams grinding out close wins last week Coburg Districts and Moonee Valley are looking to continue their successful start to the season.
After a bruising encounter against the Magpies on the weekend, the Fog will no doubt be sore during the lead-up but will be ready to face a Coburg Districts side coming off a good win.
Strong midfields are a prominent feature for many teams of Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 and that’s no different in this case with Moonee Valley captain Ned Wilson and company up against Coburg Districts, who was led well by Nathan Taylor last week.
With such an exciting new list for Coburg Districts and some big-bodied and athletic players for Moonee Valley, a close encounter and hard-hitting match-up will be on show.
Northern Saints v Jacana
With new beginnings and a chance to prove themselves worthy of a higher division, the Northern Saints tore apart the Devils by 92 points, stamping their authority on the division.
They are facing Jacana this week, who will still have a positive mindset from a hard, yet promising contest where they lost by 11 points to Coburg Districts last week.
The midfield battle will be a feature of the game as Jacana’s Mick Evans and Saints in-and-under type Eliot Kako will go head-to-head and fight for contested ball.
A share of goalkickers for both teams in Round 1 and run-and-carry off half back from Northern Saint Kieran Sheehan should make for a fast-paced, high-scoring battle and one worth watching.
East Sunbury v Keilor Park
These teams had different results in Round 1, however, both raised eyebrows from EDFL onlookers.
East Sunbury only just got over the line and won against the Bears and the Devils were slaughtered by the Saints, but will definitely bounce back after the rude awakening they copped to start their 2017 campaign.
With a young side looking to use leg speed and run-and-carry, the Thunder will look to out-run Keilor Park here.
Young Tom Cree, who has fit into senior footy perfectly after coming through East Sunbury's Under 18 program, is exemplary of Steve Grey’s preferred game style.
Scott Lambert, the Devils’ only recruit over the summer, will definitely have to prove his worth and if he plays well here, it will definitely help the team forget about Round 1 and make for a better spectacle against the Thunder.
Roxburgh Park v Burnside Heights
After nail-biting finishes and tough losses for both teams, both Roxburgh Park and Burnside Heights will want to get their first win for 2017 on the board.
The emotion from their Round 1 losses will be a significant factor and it will be telling come game-time.
With new recruit Josh Covelli slotting a few and Steven Soto gaining plenty of the ball, the Bears surprised many with a competitive game against the Thunder.
Although still searching for a win, Burnside Heights fans should be excited.
Their list is showing improvement and it will make for a better year and ultimately turn these types of close losses into wins.
Roxburgh Park will use the fiery style of play they did against the Fog, using their bigger bodies and fast-paced midfield.
This team is well-led by Harley Short, who if matched against Soto, will make for an interesting battle with many ground-ball and marking contests on display.
With Roxburgh Park feeling a need to make up for the missed opportunities of last week and Burnside Heights wanting to prove their worthiness in the division, we’re in for a hard-fought contest.
