Round 11 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By JACOB MANZIE

AIRPORT WEST v TAYLORS LAKES – RADIO GAME

ONLY one game is currently keeping three teams out of the top four, which means the back end of the Essendon Ford Division 1 season is going to be thrilling.

With Airport West sitting five and four and only one win ahead of their competition for the weekend, Taylors Lakes, this game will be one to watch.

Last time they met it went down to the wire, with the Eagles grasping the win by 12 points at Lionheart Reserve.

It’s certain that this one won’t be much different.

As both teams are coming off a loss they will be wanting to get back on the winners list, but with the Lions’ season on the line, they’ll be hungrier than ever.

An in-form Jake Hobbs will challenge Airport West’s backline, while down the other end Tyson Young and Rex Taylor must be held accountable if Taylors Lakes want to get one back on the Eagles and put themselves in a great position to make finals come the end of the year.

WESTMEADOWS v TULLAMARINE

A loss last week for Westmeadows could be costly, leaving them one game out of the top four and now equal with Oak Park and Taylors Lakes, as they could have come within a win’s reach of the top four spot.

Now, they face a very strong Tullamarine squad who haven’t really done much wrong this season, dropping only two games and sitting second on the Essendon Ford Division 1 ladder.

Westmeadows have a big challenge at Willowbrook Reserve.

With the likes of Dean Bartrop and Daniel Devine in the Demons’ midfield (who are finding great form at the right time of the season) and strong delivery to Justin Marcy and William Becker up forward, it makes it hard for any backline to stop.

But coming off a loss last week, Westmeadows will be sure to come out strong and will definitely be a great challenge.

GLENROY v OAK PARK

Glenroy have been stopped only once this season, which was Round 2 at JP Fawkner Reserve, by Oak Park.

But since then Glenroy haven’t looked even close to going down, sitting comfortably atop the Essendon Ford Division 1 ladder.

Now, in Round 11, the two face again, first v fifth, will we see Oak Park shock the powerhouse of the competition, or will Glenroy win their eighth in a row?

Oak Park is going to have to be strong defensively from the get-go this weekend, with Glenroys’ forwards Jayden Walker, Luke Capuano, Adam Winter and Josh Trembearth kicking 32 goals between them over the last two weeks.

But the Kangaroos won’t go down easily, coming off a strong 54-point victory over Westmeadows last week and being so close to the top four, they will come out firing.

HILLSIDE v HADFIELD

As Hillside sit comfortably inside the four, and as Hadfield struggle to find their feet this season, it will be interesting to see what comes from this Round 11 clash.

With eight games to go and Hadfield yet to have their taste of victory, I’m sure many would enjoy watching them win.

But it definitely won’t come easy against the Sharks, who are looking like very dangerous contenders come September.

As Jackson Volpato is moving well in the middle and kicking goals at the same time, he must be watched closely if the Hawks want to have any chance.

But who knows, as Hadfield come off the bye… it may be the rest they needed to rekindle some sort of form.

If Hillside take their foot off the pedal and think it’s going to be a walk in the park, anything could happen.
