Round 10 Preview - EDFL Women's (Part 2)

By JULIA MONTESANO

KEILOR v SUNBURY KANGAROOS

Sunday 2:55pm @ Keilor Reserve

KEILOR suffered a shock defeat in cold conditions on Sunday.

The Blues went down to the Sharks, who recorded their third win of the season.

It was a low-scoring affair, as Keilor only scored one goal while Hillside scored two.

This cannot be done against the Sunbury Kangaroos, who are hitting their straps late in the season.

The Kangaroos’ 132-point win was aided by the return of their VFLW player, Alex Quigley.

Quigley, who is Essendon’s leading goal kicker, kicked seven majors on the weekend and was named best-on-ground by her coaches.

However, she will not return for Sunbury this week, as her Bombers take on Hawthorn in the VFLW on Sunday.

The Essendon forward had plenty of support on Sunday, as four other players kicked multiple goals.

Keilor will have to keep an eye on the likes of Rebecca Dekazos, Star Weekly’s Tara Murray and gun forwards, Regina Said and Louise Martino, as they all kicked two goals last week.

Last year’s premiership captain, Emily Law and this year’s captain, Christie Roberts will need to continue their impressive form in order to cause an upset against the in-form Kangaroos.

WESTMEADOWS v STRATHMORE

Sunday 2:55pm @ Willowbrook Reserve

The Tigers avoided playing in the horrific weather on the weekend, sitting out Round 9 with a bye.

This means that their players would be keen to get back into it and would have the fresher legs to do so.

Forward, Danielle Linton would love to climb up the goal kicking tally with a big performance against Strathmore, who conceded 22 goals on Friday night.

The Mores would be hoping to get Amy Hakim back in their side, after she missed last week’s match.

Captain, Sophie Cachia will need to work hard in the back line and back up her solid performance on Friday night in order to prevent a Westmeadows scoring rampage.

Fellow defender, Megan Casey will also have to use her strong hands to ensure that she can rebound the ball out of defensive 50 at Willowbrook Reserve.

For the Tigers, expect big games from Natalie Linton and Jacinta Scott, who starred in Westmeadows’ last outings, each kicking three majors.

Strathmore’s defence will be tested again in this match, but the Mores will be keen to bounce back from a disappointing performance on Friday night.

HILLSIDE v CRAIGIEBURN

Sunday 4:10pm @ Hillside Reserve

Hillside recorded its third competition win by upsetting reigning premiers, Keilor on Sunday.

The low-scoring affair saw the Sharks come out on top by six points thanks to goals from Burcu Johnson and Fiona Pazsa.

They have a chance to record two consecutive wins for the first time this season, as they will come up against a Craigieburn side who is fresh off a walkover.

The Eagles have experienced a rollercoaster season, dropping some winnable games and being narrowly defeated by in-form teams.

Craigieburn’s leaders will need to stand up in this game, as their side needs to show the competition that they are still a side to watch.

Captain, Natasha Konstantinidis has been a key player throughout the season and will need to be complemented by big efforts from Samantha French and Kayla Glazebrook, who have been consistent throughout the season.

Some X factor from cricketers, Taylah Logie and Rebecca Lines will go a long way to ensuring Craigieburn’s fourth win of the season.
