Robbie Ahmat Moves On As Airport West Coach

Eagles Confirm Departure

THE Airport West Football Club this week confirmed Robbie Ahmat has stepped down as its senior coach due to work commitments.

Ahmat replaced Damian Cupido as coach early last season and retained the role at the start of 2017 after the club went winless and was relegated to Essendon Ford Division 1.

The Eagles started 2017 in great fashion but have since dropped off significantly and now find themselves fifth on the table.

Both Geoff Maddern and Shanon Carroll will coach the Eagles for the reminder of the season.

This is now the fourth coaching change in Essendon Ford Division 1 in 2017, with Hadfield, Tullamarine, Westmeadows and now Airport West all set to have new coaches by 2018.

The Eagles confirmed the news on their website with the following statement:

“The Airport West Football Club wishes to advise that Rob Ahmat has stepped down from his role as senior coach," it said.

“Unfortunately due to work commitments Rob is unable to continue in this role.

“The Committee would like to thank Robbie for his contribution to our club over the last two seasons and in particular through the tough times of 2016.

“Robbie has developed the playing list and leaves us in a good position for the future.

“The senior team will be coached jointly by Geoff Maddern and Shanon Carroll for the remainder of the season, having stepped up from their roles as Assistant Coaches.

“We wish Robbie all the best in his future endeavours.”
