Prelim Final Live Scores & Preview – Greenvale v Maribyrnong Park

By JACOB MANZIE

THE team who looked close to unstoppable across the whole 2017 season will go up against Maribyrnong Park this weekend for a spot in the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division Grand Final.

Only losing two games for the year, the Jets are now in a position where they have to battle it out against the Lions.

Aberfeldie were just too strong in the first final last week, beating Greenvale by nine points in an absolute nail-biter at Windy Hill.

Maribyrnong Park proved their worth last week with a big win over Strathmore.

Strathmore was strong all year, managing to knock off the top three sides during the home-and-away season, however, the Lions produced when it mattered to beat them by 27 points.

Not too many would have picked this match-up, but it will be sure to not disappoint.

When these two met during the year, Greenvale took home the points on both occasions, the first time, not by much, however, they were all over the Lions in Round 13.

Both sides will know what they need to do, and what areas of their opposition they will need to keep an eye on in order to make it to the big dance.

For the Lions, this kind of success has come far and few, and they will have a strong desire to knock off the Jets, which could happen if Greenvale isn't switched on.

Greenvale was on top of Aberfeldie last week in the first half, however, they let Aberfeldie edge their way back in and get in front.

With Aberfeldie’s back line holding up the fort, the Jets struggled to get it inside their 50, allowing them to hold on.

On Sunday, Strathmore seemed to be on fire as they came out onto the ground, kicking four goals in the first to go into the first break up, however, the resilience of Maribyrnong Park stood true and they hit the lead and kept it.

This week both sides will look to shut down key players, with Greenvale needing to be better by foot when going inside 50.

Greenvale will also need to watch Maribyrnong Park’s midfield don’t get on top too much and get a run on.

On the other hand, the forwards for the Lions need to be strong as the Jets’ defenders were strong against Abers.

This is going to be a thriller at Coburg City Oval.
