Pat Cronin Foundation Round 2024

Be Wise. Think Carefully. Act Kindly.

The Essendon District Football League is proud to again be supporting the Pat Cronin Foundation ahead of the annual Pat Cronin Foundation Round this May 3-5.

Uniting 50,000 players across five football and netball leagues with 2,100 teams across 80 locations, the Pat Cronin Foundation Round will be bigger than ever before.

Established after the tragic death of Melbourne teenager and promising footballer Pat Cronin from a Coward Punch attack, the Foundation is pioneering violence-prevention education in Australia, reaching over 70,000 people each year.

The aim of the Round is to create safer communities by giving people vital skills to avoid violence on and off the sporting field.

What we’re asking clubs to do during the Pat Cronin Foundation Round

All clubs are encouraged to make a statement of support to end the Coward Punch.

As a simple gesture of respect we also ask that all players shake the hands of their opponents before and after each game.

Coaches are encouraged to talk to their players about the dangers and consequences of violence – including the Coward Punch – both on and off the field. To reinforce the message all players are asked to wear a yellow armband to remember Pat.

Everyone is encouraged to get behind the Round

We’re urging everyone to get along to one of the featured matches and enjoy a great family day out.

Our major call to action is that everyone respects each other. Please keep this top of mind – not only on the sporting field but also going forward in daily life.

If you have the means, the Foundation happily accepts donations to support their mission. Every $10 donated to the Foundation’s Be Wise programs will educate a young person!
