Nabil Yassine Awarded National AFL Diversity Ambassador

Re-establishing Grassroots Footy at Jacana

The EDFL would like to congratulate Nabil Yassine for winning the Victorian and National AFL Diversity Ambassador award at last week's AFL Victoria Community Football Awards!

Nabil was essential in establishing grassroots participation at Jacana Reserve in 2023 starting the Hume Crescent Auskick Centre and taking on the role of Auskick Coordinator which saw great success in its first year.

Forty participants registered for the Auskick centre, with nearly half having a parent born overseas. Nabil capitalised on his connection as a teacher at Ilim College to ensure the Auskick Centre reflected the changing demographic of people living in the area.

Nabil was also recognised for his continued contribution to the TAC Unity Cup Carnival which has a proud history of 16 years in which Nabil has been involved in all 16 of them. In 2023, Nabil supplied two teams in the carnival in the Under 18s boys and men’s 18+ plus age groups. He also introduced a group of eight junior umpires of multicultural background as a strategy to recruit and diversify the umpiring cohort.

Thank you Nabil!
