Keilor Depth Proves Superior To Undermanned Glenroy

By LIAM McALLION

IN perfect weather for footy, the slick surface of Sewell Reserve was home to a dominating performance on Saturday.

Horrible luck with injuries and unavailability for both Glenroy and Keilor so far this season gave chance to some rising stars looking to have an impact at senior level.

Keilor showed they came to play hard from the get-go, with ferocious tackling pressure all around the ground and a domination in the centre clearance battle.

These clearance wins were led by the Blues ruckman Brock McGregor, whose silky taps and follow up on ground balls set up countless forward entries.

A close first quarter, where Glenroy's Tanner Nilsson used prolific bursts of speed to break the lines, added excitement to the game and gave the home crowd some belief.

This was shut down through the second quarter, though, as Keilor kept the Roys goalless and kicked eight of their own through to half time.

Through their quick hands out of defence and play through the middle of the ground, the Blues were able to lower their eyes heading forward.

It was a clinic and Keilor was asserting its authority over Glenroy.

Jackson McMahon was the latest Blue to suffer an injury and couldn’t have an impact from half time.

But it didn’t stop the pure skill of the away side, who were ahead by a huge margin all day despite failing to capitalise on many opportunities through the second half in front of goal.

Although it was hard to watch at times for the home crowd, some of the Roys’ stars gave them effort and some highlight plays to enjoy.

Josh Trembearth and Daniel Ferraro showed poise in many low and hard forward entry goal assists and quick hands out of stoppages, showing some positives in what was a hard day at the office.

A quick, long and direct game style for Keilor worked perfectly for full forward Dean Galea, whose strength in the air was no match for Glenroy.

Galea enjoyed himself, finishing with six majors.

With hardworking defence, a speedy midfield and strong forward line presence, Keilor was too good for Glenroy, winning by a huge 125 points.
