Join The EDFL Media Team
The Essendon District Football League is looking for volunteers to join its media team for the 2024 season.
The EDFL boasts a proud history since its inception in 1930 and has expanded to become the destination for top-tier football in the north-west metropolitan region of Melbourne.
Journalism and media students have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in sports media, while supporters and former players who have a passion for football and are wishing to continue their involvement with the league can do so.
There are many positions available across a number of mediums, including:
FOOTBALL REPORTER
Write content, including match previews, reviews, and feature articles for the EDFL website.
BROADCAST
MATCH OF THE DAY
Broadcast every Saturday from 2pm – 5:30pm on 98.9 North West FM and live streamed on Streamer in 2024, EDFL Match of the Day is one of local footy’s leading weekly match day programs and has seen several past commentators advance their broadcasting careers into mainstream media.
Play-by-play Commentator Calling live play alongside our experienced and existing play-by-play callers, you will need to demonstrate an ability to fluently and accurately describe live play and must also be well-researched about the competition, teams, and players in the lead-up to each broadcast.
This role is perfect for anyone looking to break into sports broadcasting and gain real world, hands-on experience on the air.
Special Comments / Expert Commentator This on-air role is perfectly suited to anyone with a background or interest in playing or coaching football at any level.
Special comments are vital during the call of the game, in that it helps fill gaps between live play and provides the audience with meaningful insights and analysis into how the game is being played.
PODCAST
The EDFL Tonight Podcast will enter its ninth season in 2024 and have opportunities for you to join the team in a variety of roles.
There are opportunities to become a co-host, producer, or audio editor for the show which is recorded in-person on a weekly basis.
VIDEOGRAPHY & CONTENT CREATION
The desire for digital content continues to evolve and the league are excited to deliver that in spades, providing opportunities for videography work and general social media content creation.
This is perfect for budding film or graphic design students looking to gain experience in conceiving and executing ideas in an accommodating environment, while also enabling those with an eye for content creation to have a bit of fun!
