Jags Outlast Saints To Advance To Second Decider In Three Years

By LIAM McALLION

A PACKED out Pirahna Park was in for one hell of a fight in the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 Prelim and both Jacana and the Northern Saints did not disappoint.

A decent wind favouring one end seemed to favour the Saints in the first half with run-and-carry against it and with the wind, using long and quick forward entries.

But Saints fans became edgy in the second term as inaccuracy cost them an even larger lead at half time.

They were on top of the bustling Jaguars through the first half, with speed and more attack on the footy they lead by nine points.

Following some strong words from Jacana’s leaders, the Jags were fired up and needed to lift.

On the back of Cameron Cloke's strength on-ground and in the air through great service by foot, he was able to finish with a huge eight-goal haul and was a major factor in their astonishing 12-goal-to-two second half.

This lift after half time was prominent through Billy Morrison, who through big intercept marks when sent as a loose back and forward pressure when down the other end, really willed the Jags over the line and lifted the crowd and his team mates respectively.

Wally Abbouchi lifted through these tough patches for the Saints and although flare and heart was still displayed in each contest by the Saints, the fitness and will for the Jags’ revenge against the Lions at Windy Hill seemed too strong as Jacana powerfully beat the Northern Saints by 58 points.
