Grand Final Preview - Keilor v Manor Lakes

By JULIA MONTESANO

THE inaugural WRFL/EDFL Senior Women’s Competition has been a massive success, with all teams putting in memorable performances.

But two teams have risen above the rest and have been dominant all season.

Keilor and Manor Lakes are the two most attacking teams in the competition, with both sides recording mammoth percentages at season’s end.

The fire power of the Blues’ Brooke Todero, Tanay Barbuto and the Wright sisters in the forward line has been second-to-none, as the girls have dominated all season.

Todero was the leading goal-scorer in the competition.

The story is similar for the Storm, who have Lindsay Newton, Yana Frontczak and Kellee McIntosh, who have all featured in the goals.

“I think our forward line will cause them a bit more headaches,” said Keilor coach, Emma Kerry on EDFL Tonight.

“If you look at the stats, we’ve only had nine goals kicked on us so our girls have done a tremendous job in defence.”

That’s thanks to the Blues’ Jill McBain and Rachael Knight, who are dangerous pressure players and have been consistently aggressive all season.

Manor Lakes and Keilor have faced off three times, and Keilor have been the victors on all three occasions.

But Kerry admits that her girls were challenged in each of their meetings.

“The intensity was different in each game, but it’ll be a tough challenge on grand final day on Sunday,” she said.

In their last meeting, Manor Lakes put on a gallant performance to trouble Keilor, and will be desperate to cause what may be the biggest upset of the year.

“Regardless of the result on Sunday, I can honestly say that it’s been one of the most satisfying experiences of my 14 years (in football),” said Kerry.

We don’t know who wins yet, but one thing is for sure, Sunday’s display of female football will be a massive win for the future of senior women’s football here in the EDFL.

The game kicks off at 2:30pm Sunday at Greenvale Recreation Reserve and will be broadcast live and exclusive on mixlr.com/edflfooty.

Live Scores will be available via the EDFL Live App.
