EDFL Women's Weekend Outlook - Thursday May 9, 2024

Presented by Airport Toyota | By Joseph Ibic

Hillside will take on Aberfeldie at Hillside Recreation Reserve in the second week of the split round.

Hillside are still unbeaten and looking like premiership contenders already after beating the reigning premiers in Oak Park by 42 points in their last game.

The Sharks will now set their sights on last year's runner's up in Aberfeldie as they look to continue to show they are the team to beat this season.

Aberfeldie have rebounded well from the Round 1 loss to Oak Park but after a narrow win over Marby in their last game, they will need to recapture their form of 2023  to take down the rampant Hillside.

Westmeadows host Maribyrnong Park at Willowbrook Reserve as they search for their elusive first win.

Maribyrnong Park on the other hand will be searching for a second win of the season and will believe their form isn't reflected by the ladder.

Marby’s strength so far has been their ability to score through Tegan Matthews who has kicked nine goals in three games so far and will be a key matchup for Gemma Wright and the Tigers to be aware of.

Keilor Park will battle it out against Burnside Heights at Keilor Park Recreation Reserve.

Keilor Park have had a mixed start to the season splitting their four matches.

They won last week’s match by 20 points after controlling majority of the match.

Burnside Heights have been the best team by some margin this season having won all their games in convincing fashion.

Keilor Park will need to find a way to shut down their dominance early to give themselves a chance.

Airport West will take on Tullamarine at Hansen Reserve for their first meeting since the 2022 grand final.

Airport West are coming off a tough 37-point loss to ladder leaders Burnside Heights in what was their second consecutive loss to a 2023 finalist.

The Eagles will see Tullamarine as an opportunity to bounce back with the Demons losing their last three matches.

Their last outing was a 66-point loss to Greenvale in which they had trouble scoring, something that has plagued them since their Round 1 win.

Greenvale will play Strathmore/Pascoe Vale at Greenvale Recreation Reserve this Saturday to round out Division One action.

Greenvale are coming off a big 66-point win over Tullamarine and will be looking to bring that momentum into this week’s match.

Alisa Magri was vital for Greenvale last weekend booting six goals, taking her season tally to 12 goals.

The combined Strathmore and Pascoe Vale side has struggled so far this season, but after a relatively close 20-point loss last week they will be hoping a win is just around the corner.

Sunbury Kangaroos take on the undefeated Coburg Districts at Eric Boardman Reserve.

The Kangaroos are coming off a 24-point win over Glenroy last week with Nat Dunne one of the Kangaroos most important players in that game booting three goals.

Coburg Districts will want to curb their influence especially early on, as the Kangaroos were able to apply scoreboard pressure early in their last game.

Districts are looking to continue their unbeaten run after a strong 34-point win last week.

The game was even up until half-time before Coburg Districts proved to be the stronger team and run away with the game in the second half, a part of the game the Kangaroos struggled in last week.

Glenroy will head to John McMahon Recreation Reserve to play East Sunbury with both sides looking for their first wins of the season.

The Roys will be hoping to carry the momentum from a strong second half showing in their last showing into this clash with the Thunder.

Roxburgh Park will battle it out with Taylors Lakes at Lakeside Oval.

Roxy have had a mixed start to the season so far sitting in fifth spot with one win and two losses and will be fresh coming off the bye.

The Lakers suffered their first loss of the season last week against Coburg Districts by 34 points and will be wanting to bounce back.
