EDFL Women's Weekend Outlook - Thursday May 2, 2024

Presented by Airport Toyota

Moonee Valley will play host to Oak Park when they take each other on at Ormond Park.

Oak Park are looking to bounce back after dropping their first game of the season to Hillside, while Moonee Valley have had an up and down start to the season.

The Kangaroos have been strong defensively, ranked third, but haven’t been able to put big scores on the board after finishing 2023 as the best attacking side in the competition.

The Fog last faced Oak Park in the preliminary final and will want to take it up to the reigning premiers who’ll be hoping to welcome back some premiership stars in Tafa Malumu and Shanel Camilleri.

Keilor will head to Buckley Park to take on Essendon Doutta Stars.

Douttas will want to continue a strong start to life back in the top flight sitting 2-1.

They rank second in defence and will want to restrict a Keilor outfit ranked second last for points per game, and pile on the points against the most leaky defence in the competition.

Despite the slow start, the winless Keilor will be hoping to get their season started as soon as possible because if we know anything about Keilor’s women’s program, they seem to find a way.

Airport West will face another challenge when they come up against Burnside Heights at Etzel Street Reserve.

The Eagles are coming off a loss against Greenvale after an impressive first two games, and will need to bring their best against an undefeated Bears outfit.

Burnside Heights have been staunch in defence only allowing 26 points through for the season, 20 of which came in their first game against Greenvale.

Airport West have been able to pile on 50 points a game with Sophie Cachia joining their already potent forward line led by Georgia O’Donovan and Emily Gipp.

Strathmore / Pascoe Vale are searching for their first win against a Keilor Park outfit that got on the winner’s list last week for their first victory since reforming their women’s program.

It’s been a tough start for Strathmore / Pascoe Vale who have faced some strong opposition, but with some quality players performing well in Charlize Kraljevic and Natasha Ziegelaar, they have room to grow.

Keilor Park are just one spot above them on the ladder, but the Devils will be keen to make it two on the trot.

Greenvale will head to Leo Dineen Reserve to take on Tullamarine.

Greenvale will be looking to keep building into the season while Tulla will be aiming to bounce back after consecutive losses.

The Jets have had two strong wins after a tough loss against Burnside Heights to start the season with a number of contributors, led by Alisa Magri, Nicolette Paschalis, and Talia Motta across the two wins.

Tulla meanwhile have remained competitive but will need to put some scoreboard pressure on.

Sewell Reserve will play host to a clash between Glenroy and Sunbury Kangaroos.

The Roys are still searching for their first win while Sunbury Kangaroos will be looking to build some momentum after a pair of strong performances.

It was a big win against East Sunbury for the Kangaroos and a valiant performance against a Taylors Lakes side that has started the season well, so they’ll be looking to square up their ledger.

For Glenroy, they’ve faced strong opposition but have shown signs of competitiveness.

Someone’s undefeated streak will be broken at Cole Reserve when Coburg Districts take on Taylors Lakes.

Both sides are 2-0 and have enjoyed strong wins, pushing themselves into the finals conversation.

The Battle of the Lions will be an interesting one with Coburg Districts looking to maintain their spot in the finals, while Taylors Lakes are one of the new kids on the block looking to make a splash in their first season.

Sunbury Lions and East Sunbury will play for the first time in senior women’s football in the EDFL when they meet at Clarke Oval.

The two sides find themselves at opposite ends of the ladder with the Lions sitting undefeated and East Sunbury still searching for their first win.
