EDFL Men's Weekend Outlook - Thursday June 22, 2023

Presented by Strathmore Community Bank and Rookie Me | By Patrick Morrow

EDFL Match of the Day will once again make an appearance at Raeburn Reserve to see a top of the table clash between Pascoe Vale and Keilor.

Both sides have been a class above the rest in season 2023 with many thinking this could be a potential Grand Final preview.

It's big names galore to take centre stage for this contest with Adam Del Busso, Matthew Watson, and Sunny Brazier on hand for Paco, while for Keilor it’s the ever-classy Nick O’Kearney, Damien Cavka, and Corey Ellis.

If Keilor were able to defeat Pascoe Vale on Saturday, they would be two games clear on top while for the Panthers they would sit equal first and hand Keilor their first loss of 2023.

Down the road at Lebanon Reserve, the two in-form teams of the competition in Strathmore and Greenvale compete.

The Jets have been a revelation in 2023, sitting outside the four by a game – could Addam Maric and co. take the game by the scuff of the neck and send a message to the competition with a win on Saturday?

At Overland Reserve, East Keilor host Maribyrnong Park, both sides looking for wins to help their causes.

If the Cougars win it will go long way to their top four chances, but if the Lions win it will create a buffer zone on the relegation zone.

A five-minute drive to Canning Reserve will see Avondale Heights take on Aberfeldie.

If there is any time to cause an upset, it is now for the Heights who need a win to leap out of the relegation zone, while for the Two Blues it would be back to back wins for the first time since Round 2.

Depending on other results, they could sit fifth by Saturday night and a game outside the four.

To wrap things up, Airport West play Essendon Doutta Stars at Hansen Reserve, which the eagles will be hoping to avoid a similar situation from Round 2, which saw the Stars get an 11-point win with Maison Goodman booting three goals.

Deer Park will host Roxburgh Park in a top five clash, which could have some serious implications come the back end of the year.

If the Magpies were able to defeat Deer Park, it will see them sit equal on points with Deer Park, which was an unheard conversation at the start of the season given the level of quality of Deer Park.

While for Heath Scotland's men, they are trying to maintain pace with West Coburg and will be hoping for no hiccups on Saturday.

Talking about the Burgers, they'll host Rupertswood at the ever tricky Shore Reserve, in what will be a interesting match up given the Sharks' form recently has been excellent.

It will be first time these sides team meet in 2023.

Just like Roxburgh Park, they too could sit even on points with Deer Park barring results, while for the Burgers Dale May will be hoping all engines are firing on Saturday with the Sharks almost nabbing the four points in the final round of 2022.

Glenroy will welcome Craigeburn to Sewell Reserve for the first time in two years. Imagine telling both club's fan bases it would be a two-year wait to play each other and in Division One.

Anyhow, Glenroy were impressive against Hillside last week, inaccuracy was the killer with 10 behinds, all of them coming in the second half and will be hoping they can get their second win of the year.

While for the Eagles, they will be hoping to avoid heartbreak again after their narrow two-point loss to St Albans.

History is on Glenroy's side though, they have not lost to the Eagles since 2016.

A suburb over and Tullamarine will play Keilor Park at Jacana. Even though its tenth plays ninth, don't be fooled, it has a lot riding on both clubs in terms of getting clear of the drop zone.

Sticking in the Hume Council area, Westmeadows host Hillside at Willowbrook.

For the Sharks, they survived a scare against Glenroy and will be hoping they can maintain momentum to keep within reach of the top five.

For the Tigers, a win on Saturday will see them be on qual points with Tullamarine.

To wrap up Round 10, St Albans will play Moonee Valley at Kings Park, where the Saints will be hoping for a straightforward result over the Fog, whose form has been inconsistent in 2023.

A win for the Fog, will get them in loose reach of the top five.

It has been the stuff of dreams for the top of the ladder Northern Saints in season 2023 who have been excellent so far, they will make the trip down to the Bear Cave to face Burnside.

The Bears are coming off a tricky loss to Sunbury Kangaroos and will be hoping to bounce back to stay with the top four pace.

While for the Saints, a win on Saturday would silent the doubters even more.

Speaking of the Sunbury Kangaroos, they will host Coburg Districts who had an important win over Hadfield in the last round.

In what will be a tough match and given the conditions at Eric Broadman Reserve, it could catch out the Districts who are making the trip to Sunbury for the first time since 2019 where the Kangaroos got the chocolates on that occasion.

Oak Park will host East Sunbury, the Roos are sitting second, but a loss on Saturday to the Thunder could see them drop to fourth depending on results.

The Thunder on the other hand, they are looking for their first win of 2023, and given the forecast is expected to be gusty, then you just never know.

Down the road at Martin Reserve, Hadfield host Taylor Lakes. The Hawks have had a tricky 2023 with an ever-changing list, but Brett Pitts' men might be able to turn it up on Saturday.

The Hawks had a 100 per cent strike rate against the Lions in 2022, so despite the loss earlier in the season, they have the propensity to produce a shock loss for a Lakers side building nicely for the second half of the year.
