EDFL Men’s Weekend Outlook - Thursday July 27, 2023

Presented by Strathmore Community Bank and Rookie Me

Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day will head to Overland Reserve for a huge clash between East Keilor and Strathmore.

A win for the Cougars will keep them level on points with Pascoe Vale for a double chance opportunity through the remaining month.

A loss would mean they’re only a game clear in the top four and with Keilor, Pascoe Vale, and Aberfeldie to come on the run home, nothing would be guaranteed.

For the Mores, a win would propel them back into the top four with a better percentage than Greenvale, while a loss would keep them a game behind the Jets.

Their run home is marginally easier than East Keilor, so a win is vital for both sides in their finals bids.

The last time they met, East Keilor won by nine points in what was a close contest all day.

In the only other game in the second week of the split round, Keilor will host Maribyrnong Park.

The Blues were able to get the job done comfortably against Marby in Round 5, winning by 68 points on the back of five goals from Damien Cavka in a best-on-ground performance.

Craigieburn scored a pivotal win last week in their bid to play finals footy but will face a tough task this week in Rupertswood.

The Eagles are a game behind Hillside who sit fifth and will expect to win at least two of their remaining games. This leaves Craigieburn needing three of their next four at the very least, so they’ll need to upset either Rupo this week or West Coburg in the final game.

Rupo have been in ominous form winning six of their last seven games to currently sit in double chance territory.

The last time they played, Rupertswood won by 34 points boasting nine individual goal scorers.

Keilor Park and Roxburgh Park are sitting two and three games, respectively, out of the finals, so while a finals berth for either side may be unlikely, it’s a good opportunity to finish the season strong.

The Devils fought hard in this matchup in Round 5 but it was the Magpies who prevailed by 15 points.

Roxy’s inaccuracy gave Keilor Park a sniff as they featured eight different goal scorers compared to the Devils’ four.

Moonee Valley have played well since their 0-5 start, their final loss before their first win came at the hands of Hillside who they’ll face this Saturday.

The Fog are three games out of finals with Hillside currently occupying that fifth spot.

Hillside got the better of this matchup in Round 5, winning by 58 points on the back of nine goals from Bailey Ryan.

Tullamarine will head to Kings Park Reserve to play a St Albans side chasing the double chance.

The Saints beat the Demons the last time they played by 65 points.

In the final two games, ladder leaders West Coburg and Deer Park will play Westmeadows and Glenroy respectively.

One of two games this week in the Division Two split round is an important clash between Coburg Districts and Taylors Lakes.

A win for Taylors Lakes will put them two games clear in second, while a win for Coburg Districts will draw them level on Northern Saints in third, and just one game behind Taylors Lakes in second.

Taylors Lakes won the battle of the Lions in this last matchup with Raaf Rachrache (five) and Vincent Angelone (four) kicking nine goals between them.

The other game in Division Two will see Burnside Heights take on Hadfield at Tenterfield Drive.

The Bears are currently two games out of finals and pushing upstream to play finals, but a win could bring them within a game of the four pending results.

The last time they played, Burnside Heights won by 33 points with a six-goal third quarter proving the difference.
