EDFL Men’s Weekend Outlook - Good Friday

EDFL Footy Is Back!

After another long off season, EDFL footy is finally back! With three men's Good Friday games to sink your teeth into, there’s plenty of action to warm you up before Round 1.

Kicking the Premier Division season off will be Keilor v Strathmore in their annual Good Friday slot with Keilor hosting this time around in our first Match of the Day broadcast of 2023.

There has been a lot of outgoing experience at Joe Brown Oval with EDFL stalwart Dean Galea moving on to Rupertswood, while fellow 2019 premiership players David Gourdis, David Isbister, Jamie Papalia, and Todd Stevenson have all also moved on.

If there’s one thing we can always count on, it’s that Mick McGuane always manages to find a way, and his side will no doubt be bolstered by the returns of Corey Ellis and Damien Cavka to the club.

The reigning premiers in Strathmore are equally affected with the loss of premiership players from 2022, but have brought Tom Condon back to the club, along with Division Two Team of the Year ruck Cooper Keogh, and Liam Cavanagh.

It'll be Marty Allison's first game at the helm for the Mores following Matthew Horne's departure.

With both clubs holding a strong focus on developing their homegrown talent, it’ll be interesting to see the blend of youth and experience with those key outs in both outfits.

Two Good Friday matchups feature in Division One to kick off the season with Craigieburn hosting Roxburgh Park, and Hillside taking on Keilor Park at Shark Park.

It’s a new look Craigieburn with Shane Jacobs at the helm and Jake Carlisle set to grace the field, almost acting like a new recruit for the Eagles.

The steadily improving Roxy will be looking to start their season with a bang after being in the finals mix for much of 2022.

While Roxy has lost their leading goal scorer in Raaf Rachrache, they have brought in a two-time Team of the Year representative in Cooper McPharlane who has averaged more than three goals a game for the last two seasons to provide a huge boost for the forward line.

2022 Division Two premiers Keilor Park will face a hungry Sharks side looking to break through into September action for the first time since 2018.

The Devils have been able to retain most of their senior playing list except for Damien Cavka and will be looking to make their mark in Division One in a big Good Friday clash.
