ABERS FALL AGONISINGLY SHORT

Aberfeldie fought back late but were not able to overcome Greenvale, falling short by just two points in the end.

Ryan Mills starred for the Jets with four goals, while Ben Bath (three goals) and Judd Brewster (two goals) also played handy roles in forward half.

Karl Brown continued his impressive run of form since rejoining the Aberfeldie outfit with four goals.

The loss puts Abers three games behind the Jets in fourth spot and with four games remaining, it’ll be unlikely the Two Blues make the finals for a twelfth consecutive season.

Greenvale on the other hand have moved into the top four for the first time in 2023 for their first look at finals footy since 2018.

Strathmore are a game behind but will play East Keilor next week in the second week of this split round.

CRAIGIEBURN GIVE THEMSELVES SEPTEMBER CHANCE

Craigieburn have now won four of their last five games following an impressive 92-point mauling of Roxburgh Park to give themselves an outside chance of playing finals.

John Bellino and Brent Gordon combined for a whopping 15 goals with Jake Carlisle also playing an important role for the Eagles.

Craigieburn controlled this game from the very start and rounded out the second half kicking 15 goals to six.

The win puts them four points behind Hillside who sit fifth as they face Rupo, Moonee Valley, Westmeadows, and West Coburg in the run home.

Hillside will face Moonee Valley next up with Roxy, Deer Park, and St Albans to follow.

DEER PARK PILE ON THE SCORES

Deer Park piled on 50 scoring shots (25.25) in their 136-point win over Westmeadows with just five goal scorers required.

While no one expected this game to be a nailbiter, it’s comfortably the most amount of scoring shots any side has put up in Rookie Me Division One this season with Moonee Valley and West Coburg the next best with 41. Each kicked 26.15 against Glenroy.

Todd Elton (eight goals), Lachie Smart (six goals), and Nicolas Aleksovski (five goals) combined in waves, with Scott Greenhough and Bailey Morrish kicking three each.

DOUBLE DELIGHT FOR KANGAROOS

The two Kangaroos sides in Division Two come away with wins as the only two fixtures this week in the Round 13 split round.

Sunbury Kangaroos were too strong for East Sunbury winning by 14 goals on the back of six from Rhys Magin who now moves four clear on top of the goal scoring tally.

Oak Park were too strong in the end for Northern Saints in the other game as they came away with a 10-point victory.

The Kangaroos kicked six goals in the second quarter to take a 37-point lead into the main break, before the Saints powered back with six goals to none in the third quarter, reminiscent of their earlier meeting where they kicked seven goals to one.

Oak Park learnt their lesson from last time however, and were able to square the ledger.

Blair Cronin kicked five for the Kangaroos with Max Gleeson and Ryan Smith named their best, while Ed Withington booted five up the other end for the Saints.

FOG LOCKS IN FINALS

Moonee Valley have secured their place in finals following their 43-point victory over Strathmore.

Charlotte D’Ambrosio kicked five goals, while Jessica Nannup was named the Fog’s best.

They’re now two games clear of fifth-placed Maribyrnong Park with one game left, with the Lions now having an outside chance of playing finals in place of Keilor.

They’re relying on Aberfeldie beating Keilor and themselves beating Oak Park while making up percentage.

It’s not impossible, but you’d think it’d certainly take a big effort.
