Swan Collects 24 But Tulla Too Good For Tigers

IT was a showpiece event for Westmeadows as it unveiled former junior Dane Swan in front of a huge Willowbrook crowd on Saturday, but rival Tullamarine stole the show.

The Demons were at their clinical best as they eased their way to a comfortable 40-point win to leap to the top of the Essendon Ford Division 1 ladder.

Swan was impressive and played a starring role for the Tigers, collecting 24 disposals and five marks in his role through the forward line and midfield.

But it was Tullamarine forward Ryan Pretty who scored best-on honours with his seven majors getting the Demons over the line.

Swan and his Tigers will be back in action on ANZAC Day against Oak Park.

Final - Westmeadows 10.5-65 def. by Tullamarine 15.15-105

Surprise Draw At Clifton Park Puts Doubt On Abers Flag Defence

Aberfeldie’s early 2018 form has been OK, but not spectacular so far this season.

On Saturday, albeit undermanned with no Kyle Reimers, Jacob Craven, Jayden Foster or James Peters, Aberfeldie was engaged in a tight arm wrestle with Avondale Heights in a game that came down to the wire, with Heights recruit Ciaran Sheehan missing a crucial shot on goal late to leave the game deadlocked at the final siren.

Donald McDonald’s side was missing big man Nathan Byrne but was buoyed by good performances from prime movers Sheehan, Dennis Armfield, Cameron Wood and Mathew Cravino.

The Heights will go in as favourite away to Essendon Doutta Stars in Round 4.

Final - Aberfeldie 13.7-85 drew Avondale Heights 12.13-85

Pacco Scores Important Win Over Undermanned Mores

Matthew Watson enjoyed his best game back at Pascoe Vale with a match-winning five-goal haul at Mascoma Street on Saturday.

Watson and fellow new arrival Lachie Hansen both starred as Strathmore lost Hamish McIntosh mid-game with a hamstring and struggled to recover, going down for the second time at home in seven days.

Both clubs are now 1-2 heading into Round 4.

Final - Strathmore 7.8-50 def. by Pascoe Vale 15.15-105

Hutchison Medallists Star In Airport West Season Opener

Tyson Young was off the leash in his first game since claiming last year’s Hutchison Medal, scoring a huge bag of 10 snags for Airport West against Taylors Lakes in an entertaining game at Hansen Reserve.

The Eagles were down by 11 at half time before kicking clear in the third with Young combining well with new recruit and fellow Hutchison Medallist, James Micallef, who kicked a goal of his own in a stellar first-up performance in green and white.

Taylors Lakes was again impressive in this one after a good Round 1 win over East Keilor, but at this stage, it’s fair to say Airport West is one of the benchmark sides of Essendon Ford Division 1.

Final - Airport West 17.17-119 def. Taylors Lakes 14.8-92

Covelli Boots Nine In Big Bears Win

Burnside Heights forward Josh Covelli was on fire at Tenterfield Drive on Saturday with nine majors helping sink Hadfield.

The Hawks are now languishing at the bottom of the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 ladder at 0-3 after failing to keep up with the potent Bears – who kicked a well above average 20.16 for the day.

It’s a result that will buoy Aidan Stott, while the pressure is now on Hadfield to improve their form with a horror upcoming draw that includes meetings with Coburg Districts, Roxburgh Park and Moonee Valley.

Final - Burnside Heights 20.16-136 def. Hadfield 15.9-99

Thunder, Fog Top Division 2 Ladder With Impressive Wins

East Sunbury has emerged as an early front-runner in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 after moving to 3-0 on Saturday.

The Thunder hasn’t had a happy time of it of late against Roxburgh Park but managed to reverse their luck against the Magpies on Saturday with a hard-fought 15-point win up at Lancefield Road.

Diquan Williams returned to the side and had a good impact with three gaols, while former Calder Cannon Brad Bernacki starred in his second game for the year.

Meanwhile east of Sydney Road, Moonee Valley stamped its authority with a surprisingly comfortable 37-point win over the Northern Saints.

Jordie Faba was the star with six goals while Braden Padmore had his usual impact with three.

The Saints fell away in the third quarter, allowing the Fog to pile on nine goals to one.

They now have a huge Round 4 clash with East Sunbury coming up, which you’ll be able to hear live on Mixlr.com/edflfooty & 98.9 North West FM – our first EDFL Match of the Day broadcast for Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 this season.

Strathmore, Roxburgh Park, Aberfeldie Score First Wins In EDFL Women’s

It was happy days for three EDFL Women’s sides over the weekend, with Strathmore, Roxburgh Park and Aberfeldie all scoring their first wins of the season.

For the Mores and Abers, it was their first ever win in club history.

Strathmore controlled their Friday night clash against Hillside from the get-go and with the help of two goals each from Elise Baniowski and Isabelle Anderson, the Mores emerged from Boeing Reserve with a 38-point win.

At Canning Street on Sunday, the Magpies managed to get past Avondale Heights/Taylors Lakes by 26 points.

Chloe Dinuccio snagged three of her side’s four goals while Emma Cranston was best-on-ground.

Over at Green Gully, Aberfeldie was too good for a battling Keilor outfit, scoring 12 goals to none in its 85-point win.

Kylie Kennedy kicked five goals and Rebecca Wrout was best-on-ground.
