KEILOR 9.12-66 def. PASCOE VALE 0.1-1
A FRIDAY night fixture didn’t stop Keilor’s rampage, as they continue to dominate the EDFL & WRFL Senior Women’s Competition.
Three first-quarter goals saw the Blues break out of the blocks convincingly, already putting Pascoe Vale on the ropes.
By half time, Keilor’s lead stretched out to 43 points, and it looked like they were set for another big day.
But the second half was a rather quiet one for the Blues, as they only kicked three goals.
Keilor still got the job done though, getting over the line by 65 points.
Kallyn Gent and Gemma Wright each kicked two majors for Keilor and were pivotal up forward.
Robyn Foster played a game and a half for the home side, her best for the year.
Keilor next faces Manor Lakes away from home in a top-of-the-table blockbuster, and could face them again in the first week of the finals.
GLENROY 12.13-85 def. ROXBURGH PARK 1.0-6
After a 193-point drubbing from Keilor last week, Roxburgh Park was motivated to turn the tables on a disappointing result.
The Magpies made a statement in the first quarter, only trailing by two points against the better side in Glenroy.
But the home side stopped Roxburgh Park from scoring in the second quarter, and increased their lead to 19 points.
The Roys continued to soldier on in the third quarter, but they were able to break away in the fourth.
Glenroy kicked six goals in the quarter to take its winning margin to 79 points in tough conditions.
Casey Jess made the forward line her own, as she kicked five goals for the day.
But the show was stolen by the return of the Glenroy captain, Renae Schwarze.
Returning from injury, Schwarze played her best game of the year and kicked four goals.
She and Jess were among the best in a great day for Glenroy.
CRAIGIEBURN 13.17-95 def. TARNEIT 1.3-9
It was raining goals at DS Aitken Reserve, as Craigieburn recorded its seventh win of the season.
The Eagles laid relentless pressure on the away side throughout the game, not letting Tarneit get a sniff.
Wet conditions made it hard for both teams to score, but Craigieburn’s poise stood up against the struggling Tarneit outfit.
Unfortunately, the Titans’ joy from their first win last week wasn’t enough to spur them over the line again for a second consecutive win.
Instead, they were back to their old ways, and went down to a gallant Eagles outfit by 86 points.
Instead of Emma Dowsett and Samantha French dominating the best-on-ground votes, it was a stellar performance by Bec Lines that turned heads.
Lines kicked six goals and was a prominent target up forward for the Eagles, in a massive Round 13 win.
GLEN ORDEN 0.0-0 def. by SUNBURY 12.14-86
It was a dreary day at Heathdale Oval for Glen Orden.
Not only did the weather plague the Hawks, but they were outrun by the class of the Sunbury Lions, who produced a stellar performance away from home.
Sunbury kicked the first three goals of the game in the first quarter and didn’t look back from there.
By half time, a 41-point margin ruined Glen Orden’s hopes of recording a massive upset win so close to finals.
In the second half, the Lions piled on six goals to take their winning margin out to 86 points, one of their biggest winning margins of the season.
Brooke Surgeon had a great day in the forward line, booting three goals in her side’s prolific win.
She was also named best-on-ground, and was complemented by the usual Sunbury jets in Natalie East and Simone Craige.
After a dominant Round 13 victory, Sunbury are now charging towards finals.
CAROLINE SPRINGS 4.7-31 def. VU WESTERN SPURS 1.0-6
It was a low-scoring affair at Town Centre Oval, as the rain plummeted down in the late game.
Caroline Springs still stood up in the conditions though, getting the four points to keep them in fourth spot on the ladder.
But the VU Western Spurs did play well defensively to stop Caroline Springs running away with a big win.
It was a tussle through the middle all day, but the Lakers persevered, sending a warning to all the finals teams.
In the end, Caroline Springs claimed a 19-point win and a very important four points.
It was a respectable losing margin for the Spurs, who fought gallantly in tough conditions.
Sarah Osborne, Zana McGuiness and Sarah Carland were among the fighters for the Spurs, and found their names in the best for their side.
The Round 13 win means that the Lakers secure themselves a finals spot, and could really push the top three.
