Eight consecutive away games.
Spearhead Jack McNamara sidelined for five weeks.
An even competition where wins are hard-earned.
Against the odds, Coburg Districts is sitting pretty at the top of the Community Bank Strathmore Division Two ladder with an unblemished record.
The Lions marked their return home after an upgrade to Cole Reserve with a thumping 102-point win over Roxburgh Park last Saturday to complete a 9-0 first half of the campaign as they chase their first senior men's EDFL premiership.
Co-captain Aaron Aquilina insisted the club had not made any significant changes, instead pointing to its seasoned players, recruits, young guns, and depth as key factors in their stunning run of form.
"I don't think there's been any drastic changes," Aquilina said.
"The core group's been pretty much intact for the last several years. We've just had some nice additions and a lot of growth from some young guys that have taken that next step and really elevated their game.
"It's just come together really well so far, so hopefully it continues on that trajectory throughout the rest of the season."

However, he did heap praise on playing coach Damien Cavka, who is in his second season at the helm and locked in for 2027.
"He's been brilliant. He drives success; he drives standards," Aquilina said.
"He drives a really strong fitness base, which is evident. We've been able to run out games strongly.
"And he just has a wealth of knowledge, bringing it down from a higher level. It's great for the whole group, all the way through to the reserves and thirds."
While Cavka's AFL career at West Coast was cut short by a foot injury, he has since enjoyed successful stints at Keilor Park and Keilor, and is now making his mark at Coburg Districts, with the club's three senior men's teams all sitting atop their respective ladders and suffering two defeats between them.
Cavka is also dominating on the field, helping himself to 36 possessions and four goals in the win over the Magpies.

"You have to listen to what he says. It's coming from coaches that are well above where we're playing at. Anything that he brings into our game, you take on board, and the results speak for themselves," Aquilina said.
"Once we've implemented a game plan and structured up, we're able to control games."
"It's been brilliant having him to be honest."
Aquilina, who arrived at the Lions in 2018, said this year's side compared favourably to past seasons.
"It's definitely up there, especially with the way we're playing," he said.
"The comp is as close as it's ever been, so you've got to make sure you're not five per cent off, otherwise anyone can get you on the day. We do have that in the back of our minds, which drives us throughout the week to make sure we're not off on Saturday. So far, it's paying dividends."

Coburg Districts' forward line has caused myriad headaches for opposition sides in 2026, with emerging stars Curtis Rawlings (31 goals) and Ali Saad (23) leading the way.
Pasquale Curcio (21) and Darcy Reid (17) have also been damaging, while McNamara has 13 goals from four outings after bagging 76 goals in 2025.
The Lions are the highest-scoring team in the division by a distance on the back of having multiple options inside the attacking 50.
"It just takes that pressure off him (McNamara) and allows him to hopefully not get double and triple-teamed week in, week out" Aquilina said.
"He was very welcomed back in on the weekend.
"Just his presence on the field, you can't buy that. I'm glad he's back and hopefully he stays in for the rest of the year."

But the ladder leader has had contributors all over the ground, with co-captain Riley Bentley, Angus O'Meara, and Patrick Logan among the consistent performers.
Competition for spots is also red hot, with Coburg Districts' reserves also boasting an 8-1 record.
"There will be challenges for the rest of the season. We're well aware of that, so we're not taking anything for granted," Aquilina said.
"But having that depth is an absolute massive positive for the club."
The Lions have reason to remain wary of 2025 minor premier Glenroy and Westmeadows, which has contested the past grand finals.
However, Aquilina said the ever-improving Hadfield and East Sunbury are also formidable opponents.
Coburg Districts will face Keilor Park at Cole Reserve on Saturday and will not have another away fixture until August, boosting its chances of staying put in top spot.
