Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Thursday May 11, 2023

Presented by Airport Toyota

Strathmore and Aberfeldie will face each other at Lebanon Reserve before the men’s game in a curtain raiser.

Aberfleide are currently undefeated and would expect to win this game, but Strathmore have shown a propensity to be the giant killers following their Round 1 victory over the reigning premiers in Keilor.

Another interesting matchup is the one between Oak Park and Moonee Valley.

The Kangaroos currently sit second on the ladder behind Abers and have been as strong as we expected, with the addition of Alex Quigley (11 goals) proving to be a particularly fruitful one paired with Samantha German (nine goals).

Moonee Valley on the other hand just downed Keilor with a comprehensive 38-point victory and will need to shut down those two forward options for Oak Park in order to jump into second place.

Hillside and Westmeadows will be looking to get some separation on one another as they both sit at the bottom of the ladder.

The Sharks secured their first win against the Mores last week, while Westy are, similarly, yet to challenge a side barring their win against Marby.

Those Lions will face Keilor who are on the rebound and look to solidify their position in the top four with a win.

Marby on the other hand have an opportunity to leapfrog Keilor as Moonee Valley did last week, but it’ll take an almighty effort to keep the reigning premiers down for consecutive weeks.

There’ll be just three games in Division One moving forward with Sunbury Kangaroos and Pascoe Vale dropping down to Division Two.

Essendon Doutta Stars and Burnside Heights shapes as the most interesting contest with Burnside currently undefeated, and Douttas in some fine form.

Douttas will be the biggest test so far for the Bears who have faced Pacco, Sunbury Lions, and Tullamarine so far.

Greenvale will host Sunbury Lions at Section Road and look to continue their unbeaten run as the potential flag favourites.

Sunbury Lions are currently fifth on the ladder in a deadlock with Gisborne for fourth, but they’ll need to put in a huge effort to ground the Jets.

Tullamarine are searching for their first win (one forfeit win) as they take on Gisborne.

Gisborne narrowly fell to Douttas by five points and were comprehensively beaten by Greenvale last week, but they have shown an ability to put big scores on the board against some of the lower sides.

Pascoe Vale and Sunbury Kangaroos will play at Eric Boardman Reserve as one side should get their season underway with a win.

For both sides, there’ll be a renewed optimism as they aim to get numbers back on track.

Aberfeldie 2 will play Moonee Valley 2 in a contest that could shape the top four.

Coburg Districts will travel to take on Maribyrnong Park 2 and bounce back from their loss against Airport West.

The Eagles meanwhile will face Westmeadows 2. Airport West have been in ominous form and boast the top three leading goal scorers in Emily Gipp, Georgia O’Donovan, and London Clark.
