Airport Toyota Women’s Weekend Outlook - Thursday August 3, 2023

Presented by Airport Toyota

Finals footy is here for the women’s competition with Airport Toyota Women’s Premier Division set to play at Greenvale Recreation Reserve!

Kicking off the action is Moonee Valley and Keilor in an elimination final with both sides hot off solid wins in the final round of the home and away season.

Moonee Valley won comfortably over Hillside, while Keilor won a thriller against ladder-leaders Aberfeldie to hand them their first loss for the season.

Both sides have been somewhat inconsistent at times this season but the Fog have gotten the better of Keilor in their two matchups.

It was a 38-point win for Moonee Valley in Round 4, and a five-point win in Round 11.

Nicole Chiera hit the scoreboard in both matches, while Charlotte D’Ambrosio returned for the second meeting with four goals.

Following the elimination final is the qualifying final between the top sides Aberfeldie and Oak Park.

These two sides have been the clear benchmark this season, but the Two Blues have taken both contests in 2023.

It was a two-point margin in Round 1, and a nine-point margin in Round 9.

Abers were led by star players Alicia Reivers, Ellie Huggard, and Erica Markesich in both games, and were able to keep Oak Park sharpshooter Alex Quigley goalless in their second meeting.

Rohan Hawker will be hoping for more of the same, but can count on Oak Park to bring their best with a spot in the Grand Final on the line!

Airport Toyota Women’s Division One finals action will head to Willowbrook Reserve with Essendon Doutta Stars and Gisborne set to kick off the action.

Douttas have had the wood over Gisborne in their three meetings for the season, extending their winning margin in each contest.

Neve Crowley and Megan Runting have led the way for Douttas with coach Marie Napoli in their contests with Gisborne, but will face Charlotte Noonan for the first time since their five-point game in Round 3 where Noonan kicked four goals.

If she and Jason Peak’s crew are on fire, this elimination final could go down to the wire like their first matchup!

Rounding out the day is the qualifying final between Greenvale and Burnside Heights, their second contest with each other in as many weeks!

The season series tilts in Greenvale’s favour 2-1, but it hasn’t been easy.

Their first contest was a six-goal difference for the Jets, but their last two have been decided by nine points or less either way.

The Bears handed the Jets their first loss which Greenvale soon rectified, and with a Grand Final spot on the line, you can bet this one will be a hot contest!

Airport Toyota Women’s Division Two will also be out at Section Road with a qualifying final between Airport West and Aberfeldie 2 kicking us off!

The Eagles have far and away been the best team in the competition, winning every game by 52 points or more.

These sides met in Round 2 and Round 8, with their first meeting cut short by an injury, and their second resulting in a 14-goal win for Airport West.

Conceding just four points per game and scoring over 100, Airport West provides Aberfeldie 2 a tough task, but they have proven themselves as the second best side in the competition.

A Grand Final spot awaits the winner!

Coburg Districts and Moonee Valley 2 haven’t been in the best form heading into the finals series but will need to be at their best to avoid elimination.

The Fog have lost their last three while the Lions have lost their last two, but Coburg Districts were able to secure two victories in their matchups this season.

Both games were decided by seven points or less with different performers standing up each side in those games.
