All eight clubs of the Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division season are represented in the 2024 Team of the Year.
Hillside's rapid resurgence to be the minor premiers was recognised with Hannah Ibrahim and Blaise Ferraro named Captain and Coach of the Team of the Year respectively.
Ibrahim retains their spot as the ruck rover and comprises a formidable midfield unit with Moonee Valley's Georgia Marsland (ruck rover) and Oak Park duo Chiara Guarino (centre) and Maggie Styles (ruck).
It's another Team of the Year selection for Westmeadows' Gemma Wright who starts in one of the full back posts with Maribyrnong Park young gun Alexandra McBride-Loane.
Hillside's Annie Gray starts on the half back flank alongside Essendon Doutta Stars duo Yasmin Welsford and Candice Dyson.
It's no surprise that the forward five consists of five of the top six leading goal kickers in the competition led at centre half forward by Hillside's Caitlin Sargent who finished the regular season with 42 goals.
Sargent just edged out Maribyrnong Park's Tegan Matthews (41 goals) who had a stellar first season as a Lion since crossing from Keilor and starts at half forward.
Emily Smith made the move to Aberfeldie after time in the AFLW and will start on the other flank after kicking 14 goals.
Two Blues teammate Erica Markesich (20 goals) will again line up in the full forward slots alongside Oak Park sharpshooter Alex Quigley who had another incredible season to finish with 40 majors.
Emily Findlay (Oak Park) retains their spot on the wing with Aberfeldie's Olivia Madden starting on the other wing after holding a bench spot in last year's side.
Starting on the bench is Bronwyn Peddley (Moonee Valley), Harmony Mitsos (Essendon Doutta Stars), Kiera Leare (Keilor), Ruby Smith (Westmeadows), Zoe Pedersen (Maribyrnong Park), and Aleesha Hobbs (Essendon Doutta Stars).
SELECTION PROCESS & CRITERIA
All EDFL Teams of the Year are compiled based solely on the input of each club’s senior coach.
The 2024 Airport Toyota Women's Premier Division Team of the Year was to recognise the best players of the 2024 home-and-away season.
Other factors such as reputation or form in previous seasons were not to be taken into account.
The Coach and Captain of the Year are determined based on the feedback provided by the senior coaches.
