2024 Women's Season Preview - Keilor

#RoadToWindyHill

The 2024 season is just around the corner so EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One. Next, we chat to Keilor coach Brooke Surgeon who provides some insights on their 2024 campaign.

Coach: Brooke Surgeon

PRE-SEASON FOCUS

"We've been working on fundamental skills so we can increase our opportunities to use the ball effectively when we have it. Structure has and always will be a huge focus for us, I am a really strong believer in every player understanding their role and trusting in the process that we set."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

"We always have our usual key players, I don't think it matters how many times we speak about Megan Neil or Maddie Barton, they just continue to perform consistently week in, week out and this year is no different.

"Shenay Thomas is looking strong so I am looking forward to seeing what she can do this year. Maddie Reynolds is a young gun and has been incredible over the pre-season."

2024 OUTLOOK

"Of course we are always aiming for a flag but more than anything our main goal this year is to have a heap of fun. As competitive as this competition is, ultimately we want the girls to remember why they're playing this sport and really enjoy themselves.

"I am sure they will learn a few things along the way but we have cultivated such a positive and energetic atmosphere within the playing group and I think that will really shine through on game day."

RAPID FIRE WITH BROOKE SURGEON

Shot after the siren to win, who do you want kicking it?

Maddie Barton.

Biggest pest at the club?

Brooklyn Ash.

Who might be viewed as the coach's pet?

Georgia Bowden.

Who’d put their hand up to be the pre-game DJ? Are they any good?

Sophie Cameron, she thinks so... she actually is.

Which side are you looking forward to playing the most and why?

Aberfeldie. It's always a great game, we seem to match up really well against them so it makes for a great hit out.

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

Keilor just managed to scrape into the finals but were knocked out in the first week after a string of dominant seasons. Players have moved in and out but the Blues will be optimistic about pushing their way back up the ladder, especially remembering some of their really strong performances against the top sides last year including handing Abers their first loss late in the season.
