The 2024 season is just around the corner so EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One. Next, we chat to Greenvale coach Troy Newton who provides some insights on their 2024 campaign.
Coach: Troy Newton
PRE-SEASON FOCUS
"We have focused on the fundamentals of the game, ball movement and how we want that to look. We've done a lot of work around tackling, contested ball, and body use as we want our players to minimise any risk of injury to themselves or the opposition, so the technique aspect has been crucial to that.
"We're still working on many aspects so we expect to build as the season progresses. We are very lucky to have a real loyal group of players as its been extremely difficult to attract new players. The main thing we want to see is energy and effort."
PLAYERS TO WATCH
"Alisa Magri has had a real strong preseason so it will be great to see the results. Amy Hakim will spend more time through the midfield this season which is exciting, while Briana Barba and Haylea Cooke have both been exceptional.
"Many of our 18 and 19 year olds will be better in their second season of senior football."
2024 OUTLOOK
"We hope to win enough games to play finals, continue the development of our players, and most importantly have fun. There always seems to be a lot of outside hype and expectation around our side but we're still young and have our own expectations in relation to performance which are very different from the noise outside."

EDFL MEDIA SAYS
It's been two consecutive grand finals for the Jets who've been so close to promotion to the top flight and should be in the mix again in 2024. Their list has largely remained the same with Chanel Caruso their only transfer out, while Sophie Pettman has moved across from Keilor and North Melbourne VFLW-listed players Alana Barba and Renee Tierney have transferred in following AFLW stints. Troy Newton is keeping a lid on things but we'll wait and see if they can go one step further in 2024. Burnside Heights first up is a great test.
