The Essendon District Football League are seeking dedicated leaders to fill the roles of the Junior Field Umpire Coach and Goal Umpire Coach, as well as Observers.

The Junior Field Umpire Coach is to be a leader who has the ability to create a positive learning environment and facilitate the improvement of on-field umpiring performance.
The main function is to develop potential umpires for inclusion in the EDFL Junior Umpire Program and ultimately progression to umpiring senior football.
The occupant of this position is responsible to the Umpires Coordinator.
The specific duties associated with the positions are as follows:
• Assist the Umpires Coordinator in the operation and management of umpiring.
• Assist the Umpires Coordinator with the selection and appointment of Assistant Junior Umpire Coaches, Umpire Academy Coaches and Umpire Mentors.
• Develop and implement a coaching plan for the junior umpires in conjunction with other umpiring personnel.
• Conduct training and coaching sessions, including knowledge on the laws and interpretations, skills and fitness for junior umpires.
• Manage the appointment of umpires to all U10, U12, U14 & U16 matches which includes the co-ordination of all other junior appointments (eg: Practice Matches, Interleague matches & finals).
• Observe junior umpires in matches and provide constructive and positive feedback to assist with their development and progression. This may include a written or verbal summary of their umpiring performance.
• Coordinate and collate observations and feedback on umpire’s performance from coaches and mentors.
• Be approachable and available by listening to umpires and providing guidance.
• Complete the authorised Coaches course conducted by AFL Victoria within a time frame agreed.
• Respect and abide by the rules and by-laws of the EDFL and the Umpires Code of Conduct.
The occupant of this position is responsible to the Umpires Coordinator.

• Assist the Umpires Coordinator in matters relevant to goal umpiring and management of umpiring.
• Develop and implement a coaching plan for goal umpires in conjunction with other umpiring personnel.
• Conduct training and coaching sessions, including knowledge on the laws and interpretations, skills and fitness for goal umpires.
• Observe goal umpires during matches with a view to ascertaining their standard of performance and their strengths and weaknesses.
• Provide constructive and positive feedback to goal umpires to assist with their development and progression. This may include a written or verbal summary of their umpiring performance.
• Appoint goal umpires on a weekly basis throughout the season. Where at all possible, appointments should reflect an environment of providing opportunity for goal umpires to develop and progress.
• Be approachable and available by listening to umpires and providing guidance.
• Respect and abide by the rules and by-laws of the EDFL and the Umpires Code of Conduct.
The Umpire Observer is to be a leader who has the ability to create a positive learning environment and facilitate the improvement of on-field umpiring performance.
The main function is to provide feedback to umpires within the EDFL and assist in their assessment and progression.
The occupant of this position is responsible to the Umpires Coordinator.
The specific duties associated with the positions are as follows:-
• Observe umpires in matches and provide constructive and positive feedback to assist with their development and progression. This may include a written or verbal summary of their umpiring performance.
• Be approachable and available by listening to umpires and providing guidance.
• Complete the authorised Coaches course conducted by AFL Victoria within a time frame agreed.
• Respect and abide by the rules and by-laws of the EDFL and the Umpires Code of Conduct.
