EDFL Men’s Weekend Outlook - May 4, 2023

Presented by Strathmore Community Bank and Rookie Me

Strathmore and Keilor will return to action with the latter facing off in a big game.

The Blues will take on the Two Blues in Aberfeldie at Clifton Park on Saturday afternoon.

Keilor are sitting 3-0 and have been the most prolific scoring side in the competition, while Aberfeldie are coming off two strong wins following their four-goal loss to Pascoe Vale in Round 1.

Josh Kemp has been firing for Abers, leading the goal scoring tally on 13 goals, but hot on his heels are Keighton Matofai-Forbes (11), Kane Barbuto (9), and Kyle O’Connor (9),

Aberfeldie won by seven goals the last time these two met, but the additions of Corey Ellis and Damien Cavka will make this one an enticing watch.

Greenvale will be searching for their first win of the season when they play Avondale Heights at Canning Reserve.

The Jets have faced stiff opposition and with Aberfeldie next week, they’ll be hoping to enter that game on the winner’s list.

The Heights on the other hand won their first game after the siren, but will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing performance against Essendon Doutta Stars.

Sitting 2-1, Essendon Doutta Stars are buoyed as they prepare to face East Keilor who for the first time last week, showed their ruthless edge.

The Cougars piled on 156 points against Airport West and will be looking to move to four wins.

The young Douttas side are full of confidence, but will face a big test against East Keilor.

Marby is another team searching for their first win against Pascoe Vale who have established themselves as one of the top sides again this year.

They have given up more than 80 points in each of their three games and have been competitive, but Brad Swain will be looking for a complete game from his men to beat the Panthers.

In the final game, Airport West will head to Lebanon Reserve to play Strathmore.

We’re expecting a lot of cracking games in Division One as we get another look at how each team competes against teams expected to be in similar positions.

Craigieburn and Moonee Valley will take centre stage on Nena and Pasadena EDFL Match of the Day with this game shaping up as an important matchup for both sides.

The Fog have been competitive in all their games but are yet to register a win, while Craigieburn have been inconsistent through their first three games.

With two teams to be relegated in Division One, early wins are vital to put themselves out of the battle as early as possible.

Also in that mix are Westmeadows and Glenroy. Westy have been in their games and showed plenty against some tough opponents in Deer Park, Tullamarine, and St Albans.

Glenroy have leaked 413 points to opposition this season and will see this game as their first big chance to move towards a victory.

Sharks and Parks will face off in separate matches with a rampant and refreshed Hillside facing Roxy, and Rupertswood taking on Keilor Park.

Both matches shape up to give us a better insight to where teams are with Roxy searching for their second win, Hillside looking to stake their claim as a premiership threat with four on the trot, the Devils wanting to push out of the relegation conversation, and Rupo staying in the finals hunt early.

West Coburg will leave the Shoretress and head to Kings Park for the first time to play St Albans.

The Burgers are coming off their three-point thriller against Deer Park and will want to carry that momentum into Saturday against a Saints side that pushed Deer Park for three quarters.

The Lions will host Tullamarine who will be hoping for a better showing against a premiership contender than their 56-point Round 1 loss to West Coburg.

Gaining a number of players missing from that side, the Demons will rate their chances, while Deer Park will be ruing their missed opportunities last week (11.19) and aim to be more efficient in front of goals.

We have a split round in Division Two with two sides searching for their first win of the season.

Sitting at opposite sides of the ledger, a 3-0 Northern Saints will travel to face the 0-3 Sunbury Kangaroos.

It’s been a strong start for Tamer Abdallah’s men who have reached 100 points in two of their three games.

For Sunbury Kangaroos, they have an average loss margin less than five points with three single-digit defeats to three of the remaining 2022 finalists.

East Sunbury will also be looking for their first victory when they face Hadfield.

The Hawks are the lowest scoring team in the division by a fair margin and will be hoping to put a winning score on the board this week against the Thunder who have conceded the most points.
