2024 Women's Season Preview - Strathmore/Pascoe Vale

#RoadToWindyHill

Round One might be in the books, but scouting ahead at each club's season outlook doesn't stop. We chat to Strathmore/Pascoe Vale coach Ron Sikora who provides some insights on what their 2024 campaign will look like.

Coach: Ron Sikora

PRE-SEASON FOCUS

"It's been about consistency. Everything we do needs to be consistent whether it be training habits, work rate, communication around the group."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

"Our captain Clara Toperosa is going to have a good year. She has a year under her belt as captain and a year in Premier Division. Maeve Langston is another one who has grown in leaps and bounds with her leadership stuff, so she'll take it to another level this year I think."

2024 OUTLOOK

"Sometimes the footy gods aren't kind – we've had pregnancies, people relocating or moving to play with mates to finish their careers, some wanted to stay in the higher level. In a nutshell, we just need to have a fun year and work on what we need to in order to retain players moving into next year. It's going to be a block-by-block assessment."

RAPID FIRE WITH RON SIKORA

Shot after the siren to win, who do you want kicking it?

Georgie Richardson.

Biggest pest at the club?

Maya Koo.

Who has put their hand up to be the pre-game DJ?

Our DJ from last year moved to Torquay so we're accepting candidates for that! There are a few energetic girls from Pacco who may want to take over that.

Which side are you looking forward to playing the most and why?

Greenvale's always been at the top of the table and they'll be a good measure to see where you're at.

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

Strathmore's first season in the top flight didn't go as planned and they find themselves back in Airport Toyota Women's Division One where they lost just two games on their way to the flag in 2022. They lost some key personnel in the offseason and will combine with Pascoe Vale who struggled for numbers at various points in 2023. It's great to see both sides able to hit the park and with them still featuring some talented and experienced players, it'll be even better to see them get some on-field success.
