2024 Airport Toyota Women's Division Two Season Preview

Women's Division Two Season Preview

It'll be a new-look Airport Toyota Women's Division Two in 2024 with four new or returning sides entering the competition and all second sides moving into a separate Reserves competition.

East Sunbury, Glenroy, Roxburgh Park, and Taylors Lakes join the existing Coburg Districts, Sunbury Kangaroos, and Sunbury Lions to make it a seven-team competition in 2024.

All the action kicks off this Saturday!

ROUND 1 MATCHES

Glenroy v Roxburgh Park at Sewell Reserve - 11:50am
Sunbury Lions v Sunbury Kangaroos at Clarke Oval - 11:50am
East Sunbury v Taylors Lakes at John McMahon Reserve - 11:50am
Coburg Districts BYE

2023: 3rd (7W, 6L, 83.75%)

Coach: Gavan Wray-McCann.

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Amy Ronchi (Wattle Park), Helena Katsios (La Trobe University), Larissa Sahyoune (Wallan), Chantelle McGuinness (Fitzroy Stars), Dawn McGuinness (Fitzroy Stars), Harmoni Chivell (Sunbury Kangaroos), Cheryle Arden (St Marys) & Belinda Czosnek (Maribyrnong Park).

Out: Molly Heales (Lancefield), Marsa Arob (Coburg) & Kaila Ducret (West Footscray).

EDFL Media Says: Despite being the only finalist from this division last year, Coburg Districts will face new challenges in 2024 with them facing just one upcoming opponent in the 2023 season. They split two games with Sunbury Kangaroos before being knocked out in the first week of finals but will enter 2024 with a fresh mindset following the appointment of Gavan Wray-McCann and the inclusion of a number of new arrivals. The departure of Kaila Ducret is significant but the Lions will be hoping they can fill that void with their new faces.

Round 1 Fixture: BYE

2023: New in 2024.

Coach: Lisa Borg.

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Katelyn Sinnema (Rupertswood), Hayley Braddock (Airport West), Danielle Harding (Airport West), Rachael White (Tullamarine), Sarah Hunt (Sunbury Kangaroos), Sophia Iosifidis (Sunbury Kangaroos), Rachael Spencer (Sunbury Lions), Eden Brown (Moonee Valley), Ally Salpingidis (Burnside Heights), Maegan Schultz (Kyneton), Genaya Faulkner (Melton), Ashleigh Koo (Sunbury Kangaroos) & Steph Pantonio (Essendon Doutta Stars).

EDFL Media Says: The Thunder are one of the clubs fielding their inaugural women's side in Division Two for season 2024 and will be headed by experienced player and coach Lisa Borg. There's a mix of experienced and new players which should hold East Sunbury in good stead for 2024 and moving forward.

Round 1 Fixture: Taylors Lakes (H)

2023: New in 2024.

Coach: Bill Emerson.

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Jessica Ashcroft (North Brunswick), Jackie Vella (North Brunswick), Emily Williams (Mernda), Casey Henham (South Morang), Terri-Michelle Speirs (North Brunswick) & Mariella Teuira (North Sunshine).

EDFL Media Says: Glenroy went on a big recruiting drive and have managed to attract a number of new faces to play footy in 2024. Experienced women's footy coach Bill Emerson was announced as the coach to develop their women's program with marquee recruits Jax Vella and Jess Ashcroft to assist with attaining on-field success. That, however, will not be priority number one as the club looks to build upon this foundation.

Round 1 Fixture: Roxburgh Park (H)

2023: New in 2024.

Coach: Kevin Allan

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Alexandra Curseri (Keilor), Danira Leafa (Tullamarine), Chloe McIntosh (Tullamarine), Caitlyn McLeod (Montmorency), Summa Blackburn (Caroline Springs), Emily Val (Avondale Heights), Erica Linehan (Westmeadows), Emily Prouse (Westmeadows), Mackenzie Best (Westmeadows), Megan Allan (Montmorency), Natalie Tull-Boyle (Westmeadows), Natasha Fama (Westmeadows), Madison Bayes (Montmorency), Willow Harrington (Whittlesea) & Regina Evangelou (Westmeadows).

EDFL Media Says: Roxy got busy early to secure recruits with footy experience and were effective in doing so under coach Kevin Allan. They were able to attract local talent as well as players from other leagues, along with a suite of new faces to enable the Magpies to hit the ground running.

Round 1 Fixture: Glenroy (A)

2023: 5th (5W, 8L, 48.05%)

Coach: Chris Dunne

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Kelsie Gill (Strathmore), Bronte Koutras (Darley), Tylah Bell (Coburg), Elisha Green (Strathmore), Kiara Milici (Braybrook), Chelsea Cawen (Braybrook) & Olivia Cairo (Strathmore).

Out: Amelia Alexander (Taylors Lakes), Courtney McCormack (Taylors Lakes), Sarah Hunt (East Sunbury), Sophia Iosifidis (East Sunbury), Harmoni Chivell (Coburg Districts), Sacha Haack (Taylors Lakes) & Ashleigh Koo (East Sunbury).

EDFL Media Says: Sunbury Kangaroos will be wanting to build on a positive finish to the 2023 season after being moved into Division Two following a start in Division One. They've been able to bring players back to the club after time off or moving to another club which should enable the group to aim to get back on the successful path they had worked hard to be on.

Round 1 Fixture: Sunbury Lions (A)

2023: 6th, Airport Toyota Women's Division One (2W, 11L, 21.36%)

Coach: Matt Tremellen.

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Brianna Spratling (Casterton Sandford), Amy Clendenning (East Sunbury) & Babe Burgess (North Haven).

Out: Chloe Hodgson (Lancefield) & Sophie Bottams (Lancefield).

EDFL Media Says: Sunbury Lions will move into Division Two after spending the 2023 season in Division One where their only two wins came against sides that were soon relegated (Pascoe Vale and Sunbury Kangaroos). There won't be a great deal of personnel changes that will affect the Lions in season 2024 so they should be well poised to taste some on-field success.

Round 1 Fixture: Sunbury Kangaroos (H)

2023: New in 2024.

Coach: Joseph Antonetti

LODGED TRANSFERS

In: Johanna Mercado (Westmeadows), Abbey Boorman (Pascoe Vale), Hannah Sullivan (Airport West), Amelia Alexander (Sunbury Kangaroos), Courtney McCormack (Sunbury Kangaroos), Stefania Valerio (VU Western Spurs), Chloe Clark-Cain (Braybrook), Holly Jared (Tullamarine), Rebecca Foggie (VU Western Spurs), Sacha Haack (Sunbury Kangaroos), Marian Pham (North Sunshine) & Mia Bondar (Keilor).

EDFL Media Says: It's a new dawn for Taylors Lakes who enter their own women's side for the first time in the club's history and they've managed to build a strong list. New coach and former Sunbury Kangaroos coach Joseph Antonetti has managed to bring Team of the Year member Courtney McCormack to the Den to aide in achieving on-field success as early as possible to retain and build their burgeoning program.

Round 1 Fixture: East Sunbury (A)
