#RoadToWindyHill

With the 2023 season just around the corner, EDFL Media will be previewing each club heading into Round One. Next, we chat to Moonee Valley coach Ian Denny who provides some insights on their 2023 campaign.

2022: 8th (4W, 14L, 64.51%)

Coach: Ian Denny (second season)

PRE-SEASON FOCUS

"The biggest focus for us this pre-season was increasing our skill level and execution, so we ensured balls were included in all activities."

LIST SHAPE

"We have recruited a few players which should provide us with better depth; we are hoping this can get some wins for our reserves team which also lifts club spirit."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

"We have had a number of players put in a strong pre-season, Quinn McArthur is an 18-year-old who will be looking to break in and we look forward to seeing his improvement throughout; Sam Milne who only played a half a game last year is fit and ready and also jumping out of his skin to do well. Our Under 18 group have also trained very hard with a number of players putting their hand up to play seniors."

2023 OUTLOOK

"We are hoping to push up the ladder and play finals. From there, everyone's a chance on the day."

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

It's always a difficult task moving up a division, and while Moonee Valley didn't have the year they would have liked in 2022, they'll have another crack at things this season. Ian Denny will enter his second season with the Fog with minimal list turnover, retaining much of their core group including 2022 Team of the Year representatives in Will Agius and Bevan Newell. They started to hit their stride in the second half of the season which featured losses to Tullamarine, West Coburg, and Hillside by less than a goal. They'll head to Roxy in Round 1, before hosting Keilor Park and Rupertswood to kick off their season.
