2023 Season Preview - Glenroy

#RoadToWindyHill

Round One might be in the books, but scouting ahead at each club's season outlook doesn't stop. We chat to Glenroy coach Dean Young who provides some insights on what their 2023 campaign will look like.

2022: 10th, Premier Division (1W, 17L, 44.82%)

Coach: Dean Young (first season, replacing Ross Terranova)

PRE-SEASON FOCUS

"With our assistant coach/fitness guru Mark Deagan's training schedule we've had a really solid pre-season, focused on a lot on endurance running which will transfer into the way we want our players moving throughout a game. One of our main objectives this year is to bring the love of the game back and I'm more than confident we are already well on our way. Numbers on the track have improved each week, we started with low thirties now we are around the 50 mark."

LIST SHAPE

"With dropping down from the Premier Division, any team is always going to lose a few players. In saying that, I feel that the blokes we have picked up, have added a new spice to our list which is really exciting to see and not to mention the number of past junior players that have come back to play."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

"We are excited with the new additions to our club. I believe that our entire playing list is something to look out for, at this point we feel everyone is travelling as though they could have a breakout year."

2023 OUTLOOK

"As a coaching group our aim this year is to be competitive each week and push our list to a standard of football that will hopefully see us playing finals. As a club we are excited about 2023."

EDFL MEDIA SAYS

There is typically a lot of movement in and out when side's drop a division, and that is no different to the movements at Sewell Reserve. Aaron Kite is off to coach, Adam Del Busso and Judd Brewster have chosen to stay in the top flight, and Jacob Grigg has headed back to the country. Despite these key losses, they have managed to bring in a large amount of depth to their squad, led by the arrivals of Mark Sabatino, Cody Wight, Tim Garisto, and young star Paul Pascu. Their season didn't start the way they would have liked, but they would have been happy to see Wight and Sabatino hit the scoreboard. They'll face West Coburg on ANZAC Day and Tullamarine the week after.
