Round 20 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Division 2

NORTHERN SAINTS v COBURG DISTRICTS

IT’S been a disappointing season for Coburg Districts.

But with pride on the line and an opportunity to defeat the high-flying Saints, the Lions will be keen to get over the line in the closing stages of the season.

They will especially be hoping that the Vesnaver brothers can continue their fine form in front of goal, as this will be crucial in matching the Northern Saints’ attacking style of football.

Last time these two sides went head-to-head, it was the Saints who got on top with a 12-point win.

Coburg Districts could challenge the Saints again and the home ground advantage might not be all that beneficial for the Saints, who have won four and lost four at Charles Mutton this year.

Additionally, both teams have won three out of their last five games, so form lines haven’t favoured either side in this match-up.

However, expect Northern to put all that aside and come out firing in the hope of securing a handy win to go into finals on a high note.

ROXBURGH PARK v BURNSIDE HEIGHTS

Coming off three consecutive wins puts the Magpies in a good position to continue their streak and knock off the ever-improving Bears.

Burnside Heights has claimed some big scalps this year, including ladder-leaders Moonee Valley, and is coming off another big win against Coburg Districts.

The Bears have now defeated last year’s grand finalists twice this year and will be looking to spoil the finals party for Roxburgh Park.

This happened last time these two teams met, as the Bears claimed a thrilling three-point win in Round 13.

Since then, the Bears have won three of their last five games, as have the Magpies, so this match is actually pretty even on paper.

Despite a discrepancy in ladder position, expect both teams to come out firing in the hopes of ending their seasons on a high.

HADFIELD v MOONEE VALLEY

After a win over the Northern Saints followed by a loss to East Sunbury, Moonee Valley would be hoping to return to scintillating form against Hadfield.

In a classic top-versus-bottom clash, expect the Fog to come out firing in a hope to boost their percentage at the top of the table.

Although the Hawks sit on just one win for the season, they have shown promising signs in the last couple of weeks.

They went down to the in-form Bears by just 24 points in Round 18 and went down to the finals-bound Magpies by a similar margin last week.

If Hadfield can prevent an early onslaught, then it may be able to spoil Moonee Valley’s hopes of claiming a big win.

With pride on the line for the Hawks, it could be a danger game for Moonee Valley if it takes the foot off the pedal on Saturday.
