'EDFL Match Of The Day' Collects AFL Victoria Media Award

Best Radio Match Day Coverage

EDFL Match of the Day was last week recognised as the best live radio coverage in all of Victorian community football for 2018.

The EDFL’s weekly live broadcast claimed ‘Best Radio Match Day Coverage’ from a list of six nominated leagues at Friday’s AFL Victoria Media Awards luncheon held at IKON Park.

It was the EDFL’s first win in the category since 2012.

This year delivered some firsts for EDFL Match of the Day.

Coverage began back on Good Friday with the men’s/women’s double-header between Keilor and Strathmore, covered live and in full.

In total, three EDFL Women’s games were included in the rotation and for the first time since the EDFL expanded to three men’s divisions, all 26 clubs were covered at least once during the season.

EDFL Match of the Day also broadcast the Big Childcare Under 17 Division 1 Grand Final between Strathmore and Aberfeldie.

This year’s coverage was led by play-by-play duo Travis Poznachowski and Michael Pepicelli, with league media manager Adem Saricaoglu serving as an ‘around the grounds’ reporter and back-up play-by-play caller.

In special comments and on boundary, Adam Russell was joined by newcomers Tim Solly and 2014 Coburg Districts reserves premiership coach, Kaine Hocking.

Keilor senior player Ben McManus also continued in his role in special comments when playing commitments allowed.

EDFL Media would also like to acknowledge the on-air contributions of Julia Montesano, Adam Papal, Tara Murray and Liam McAllion, as well as North West FM panel operator, John Dosen.

EDFL Match of the Day returns for Season 2019 on the first weekend of April, with Round 1 to commence with 13 games across the three senior men’s divisions on April 5-6.
