The Eagles Make Finals As Hawks Get Dismantled A Final Time

By JACOB MANZIE

HILLSIDE 10.8-68 def. by AIRPORT WEST 15.8-98

Game Details

THE biggest, best, and most important game for Airport West all year came down to the last round, with a win putting them into the finals.

Airport West looked almost cooked after losing multiple games in a row and moving down to fifth weeks ago.

But here, they managed to knock off second-placed Hillside by 30 points and take the last spot to play off this Sunday against Tullamarine.

Winning the first quarter set the Eagles up for the rest of the match against Hillside, as they were able to keep their hands on the pill, convert in front of goal and run the game out.

Lachlan Di Sebastiano led the way for the Eagles, as he has done a bit this season, while Jack Cripps kicked four goals to keep the lead steady.

Hillside’s Peter Maglogiannis tried his best to keep Hillside in it but it wasn’t enough.

The Sharks face Glenroy this Saturday at Windy Hill for a spot in the Essendon Ford Division 1 Grand Final.

OAK PARK 10.5-65 def. by TULLAMARINE 22.18-150

Game Details

After an impressive few weeks, and some good wins, Oak Park were shut down completely by Tullamarine on the weekend, ending their final hopes.

Showing some good signs, Oak Park managed to work their way up to fourth spot only last week after beating some of the strong sides in the Essendon Ford competition.

However, Tullamarine didn’t seem to be phased, and were quick to stop Oak Park.

Setting the standard from the get go, the Demons managed to get ahead quite quickly, putting the Kangaroos on the back foot in the first.

Oak Park managed to fight back a little but just couldn’t match the Demons quality of football and went down by 85 points.

GLENROY 39.23-257 def. HADFIELD 0.2-2

Game Details

Hadfield will finish 2017 with no wins after losing to Glenroy, something they won’t want to relive.

It was fair to say, although there wasn’t much on the line for either side on the weekend, Hadfield were dismantled by the best side in the competition.

Being the last round of the 2017 season, it was interesting to see Glenroy leave nothing on the ground as they could have rested some players to go into finals.

However, they came out guns blazing, with a 20-goal first half and a 19-goal second half to absolutely tear apart the Hadfield outfit.

Glenroy’s tall forward, Adam Winter, kicked 13 goals, yet didn’t earn himself best-on, as fellow teammate Luke Sullivan took home the honours.

There were no goal kickers for Hadfield, however yet again Steven Angus and Jacob McKerchar did all they could in what was a very hard day.

WESTMEADOWS 19.7-121 def. EAST KEILOR 14.7-91

Game Details

Westmeadows got one back on East Keilor in the final round of season, defeating the away side by 30 points.

Last time the two met it came down to the wire, however East Keilor managed to win by seven points.

A different story to this time around.

Westmeadows had a strong first half and set a good pace, with East Keilor making up tracks for the rest of the game, but they couldn’t catch up.

East Keilor’s best player for the second week in a row was Ethan Langwell, and their main goal kicker was Peter Tsavdaridis, with three goals to his name in Round 18.

Aaron Evans featured in the best yet again after a great game, while Adam Taylor and Leigh Owen also helped their side get the points.

These two sides will be ones to watch next season.
