The CEO’s Perspective - Sockit2MND Round Edition

By Craig Armstead

INCREDIBLY, this weekend will mark the end of the first half of the home-and-away season for Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 and Division 1 of senior men’s football.

For our EDFL Women’s competitions and all junior grades, we are already into the second half of the season.

This past weekend many girls and boys played for the EDFL in our junior representative program.

We fielded teams for boys and girls across Under 13, Under 14 and Under 15 competitions.

All teams played their games in the spirit we expected and the players, coaches, support volunteers and parents should all be very proud.

The Under 14 and Under 15 competitions form part of AFL Victoria’s Metropolitan Junior Development Series, which includes teams from all junior competitions across Melbourne.

The Under 13 competition is a joint initiative between ourselves, the Western Region Football League and the Riddell District Football Netball League.

A number of our clubs hosted matches and did an outstanding job of presenting themselves and the EDFL.

I'd also like to thank and congratulate all of the EDFL umpires who were chosen to officiate in junior interleague games.

Thanks to everyone who assisted with the very successful junior interleague program for 2019.

The EDFL, together with AFL Victoria, are proud to again partner with FightMND for the Sockit2MND round this weekend.

FightMND is Australia’s leading independent Motor Neurone Disease association, fighting to find a cure for MND through fundraising initiatives such as the Big Freeze, Daniher’s Drive and now the Sockit2MND Round.

Many EDFL clubs will be promoting Sockit2MND Round this weekend and we appreciate the support provided by the broader EDFL community.

I will finish with a quote from the amazing leader of this FightMND campaign, Neale Daniher.

“MND takes everything from you except your last great freedom; and that’s your right to choose your attitude.”
