The CEO's Perspective - EDFL Junior Interleague 2018

By CRAIG ARMSTEAD

AN enjoyable part of our annual football program is the metropolitan junior championships where boys and girls from the EDFL compete against representatives from other Australian Rules football competitions.

This year the EDFL will field two boys Under 13 teams, two boys Under 14 teams, two boys Under 15 teams and one Under 15 girls team.

After success in Division 2 last year, our Under 14 and 15 boys teams will all compete in Division 1 for 2018, where the competition will obviously be stronger.

The Under 13 boys will play a round-robin tournament against the Western Region Football League and the Riddell District Football Netball League on Sunday June 10.

The Under 14 and 15 boys and girls teams will play three rounds:

 1. Wednesday May 30 (night matches)

 2. Saturday June 9

 3. Monday June 11

Closer to these dates we will publish times and locations for all matches on the EDFL website and through our social media channels.

Over the past two weeks we have held jumper presentation events for all the junior representative teams for 2018.

These are very enjoyable functions for a number of reasons, the most pleasing being the excitement on the faces of the players selected.

It is also great to see players interacting with teammates who play for different clubs on the weekend.

Many of these girls and boys have longer-term aspirations for their football careers.

We hope that playing junior representative football for the EDFL at a higher standard will continue their development and support their football dreams.

In discussing the representative program with the coaches, they all made comment on how hard it was to select the final teams.

The EDFL thanks all players who made the commitment to attend training and try out for the program this year.

We would also like to recognise and thank the coaches, team managers and support staff for the time they provide to the interleague program.

All have commitments with local football clubs and dedicate their time to the representative program, too.

It would be remiss if l didn’t also thank the parents for the time they dedicate to bringing their children to the training sessions and other requirements.

Similarly, the representative football requirements are in addition to their local club football needs.

Good luck for the weekend.
