The CEO’s Perspective - ANZAC Day Edition

By Craig Armstead

THIS week marks the second round where all senior and junior competitions will take the field following a two-week break for the junior teams during school holidays and Easter.

The games commence tomorrow with nine matches being played on ANZAC Day.

Australian Rules football has played a significant role in supporting ANZAC Day and the various activities related to April 25.

The AFL competition and sport generates enormous awareness and exposure for ANZAC Day, and the EDFL is delighted and proud to be able to also play a role.

ANZAC Day is the day where we remember all Australians who served and died in war and operational service.

The spirit of ANZAC, with its qualities of courage, mateship, and sacrifice, continues to have meaning and relevance for our sense of national identity.

This year ANZAC Day will feature nine EDFL matches.

In senior men’s competitions we have two Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division games with Glenroy hosting Strathmore and Avondale Heights at home to Aberfeldie.

In Division 1, Westmeadows travels to Oak Park.

All these venues will feature three matches on the day as well as a range of other activities to celebrate ANZAC Day.

With two rounds completed for all senior competitions we have already seen different results to what many people expected.

Our two divisions of senior women’s football being a case in point.

The addition of six new clubs to senior women’s competitions and the required expansion to two divisions was always going to provide a level of unpredictability.

However, some teams are performing better than expectated and conversely questions have been asked about others.

History shows that the first two rounds is not enough to base any future predictions from, however it does raise interest levels for the coming weeks.

Unpredictable match results are a great segue into the new EDFL Footy Tipping competition.

We have been delighted with the high number of tipsters who have registered to date, and some are demonstrating deep insight of the EDFL competitions.

If you haven’t signed up yet its not too late as you will be allocated the average score for the rounds you have missed.

A reminder that the first prize if $500 and access is available through the EDFL website.
