Semi Final Preview - EDFL Women's

By JULIA MONTESANO

SEMI FINAL 1 - ABERFELDIE v WESTMEADOWS

Sunday 2pm @ Lionheart Reserve

ABERFELDIE has been one of the surprise packets of the year, with the new EDFL Women’s outfit sliding into the top four.

This gives the Gorillas a valuable second chance after a heavy 59-point loss against minor premier, Pascoe Vale.

While they only got two points on the board against the Panthers, Amber Wescombe and Alicia Reivers put on promising performances and would be keen to perform well again against a formidable Tigers outfit.

Another new team in the competition, Westmeadows has been one of the more dominant outfits in EDFL Women’s and nearly took fourth spot off the Gorillas.

Emily Brebner was convincing in the Tigers’ win over the Mores last week with two goals while Jacinta Scott and Tylah Evans also played wonderful games.

Both teams have enjoyed an even contribution from a variety of players throughout the season, so it will be interesting to see which players step up in the big clash.

Keep in mind last time these two teams met, Aberfeldie escaped with a six-point win, so this game could go either way.

SEMI FINAL 2 - SUNBURY KANGAROOS v SUNBURY LIONS

Sunday 2pm @ Canning Reserve

The Sunbury Kangaroos will come into this game with a fierce sense of hunger after falling narrowly short of Burnside Heights last week.

The Kangaroos led for most of the game but a late Bears goal cost them a valuable week off and of course, a defeat against one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.

But they face another dangerous side this week in cross-town rivals, the Sunbury Lions.

The script couldn’t have been written any better, as both Sunbury sides will fight for a coveted spot in a Preliminary Final against Pascoe Vale.

The midfield battle will be highlighted by Kangaroos duo, Tylah Bell and Bailee Said going up against gun Lion, Simone Craige.

Up forward, expect a big game from Tara Crisp, who didn’t get on the scoreboard against the Bears and would therefore be keen to do so on Sunday.

The Lions would be keen to quell her influence like the Bears did last week and are capable of doing so, after holding Keilor to just 14 points in the Elimination Final.

While they only escaped with a narrow win against the Blues, you can ensure that the Lions still have plenty in their tank to give it their all in a must-win clash.
