Roxburgh Park Family Building Female Pathway

EDFL Women’s Preview – Roxburgh Park

By JULIA MONTESANO

THE Magpies were one of the most resilient teams in the competition last year, as the players would still run onto the field with a smile every week, despite suffering some heavy losses.

Their first win came in Round 3 against WRFL side Glen Orden, where talented forward, Tricia Devine and captain, Cheree Spowart each kicked two goals in the match.

These girls were the usual standouts for Roxburgh Park, with their constant hunger for the footy and on-field leadership.

Emily Thurau-Clayton was also a great contributor for the side last year and is raring to go again in 2018.

Roxburgh Park secretary, Tracey Winmar says the club has recruited some new players and they are mingling well with the older players.

“Everyone is very supportive of each other and they're kind of like mentors for the younger girls at that higher level,” Winmar told essendondfl.com.au.

“The Youth Girls and the women are all training together.

“They all know how each other plays.

“Doing the drills together is good because some of the Youth Girls do come up and play women's if we're short.”

The Roxburgh Park secretary admits that although wins are nice, she hopes that the players can get more out of the season.

“Winning's always good because it boosts the morale of everybody,” Winmar said.

“We're just hoping that we're able to have a full team and no injuries, fingers crossed.

“We just hope that everyone can get something out of the year, not just playing footy, but the friendships that everybody has with each other.

“We are all one family.”

This year, the club’s co-captains will be Amy Paten and Chloe Denuccio, while Tricia Devine will be the Magpies’ vice-captain.
