Round 9 Preview - EDFL Women's (Part 2)

By JULIA MONTESANO

SUNBURY LIONS v KEILOR PARK

Sunday 2pm @ Clarke Oval

The Sunbury Lions experienced their first loss in three weeks, going down to Burnside Heights by 25 points.

After returning to the form that saw them finish third in the competition last year, the Bears put a dent in the Lions’ premiership campaign, leaving them hungry to get back on the winners list this week.

Dianne Comport has kicked at least one goal in her last four outings for Sunbury and will undoubtedly be a player to watch for the Devils.

Women’s co-ordinator and player, Krystie Dudley has also found some form as of late, and would be keen to continue to play some good footy against the Devils.

The Devils have come off another big loss, this time going down the Mores by 91 points.

Once again, it was Samantha German who provided a shining light for the Devils.

She was complemented by Chiara Imela and Jordan Gwynne in the heavy loss.

German is Keilor Park’s leading goal kicker for the season, kicking five goals from six games.

She will be vital inside 50 if the Devils are to push the Lions and record their first ever EDFL Women’s victory.

SUNBURY KANGAROOS v AVONDALE HEIGHTS/TAYLORS LAKES

Sunday 2pm @ Eric Boardman Reserve

The Sunbury Kangaroos are making their presence felt in the EDFL Women’s competition, sitting third on the ladder and coming off a huge 112-point win against Roxburgh Park.

They are also hot on the heels of Burnside Heights, and a win this weekend could put even more pressure on the Bears.

The dynamic forward line of Tara Crisp, Regina Said, Bronte Koutras and Louise Martino is one of the competition’s most dangerous prospects, and will be looking to score heavily against Avondale Heights/Taylors Lakes.

The Kangaroos’ midfield is also stacked, with Bailee Said, Tylah Bell and Danielle Green on fire in the middle of the ground.

It will be a tough test for the Lakers, but they have some players of their own who have been starring throughout the season.

Rita Ceravolo has been one of their best ball-users, giving her side optimal chances to go forward.

She will be hoping that goal kickers Hajer Mohamed and Jodie Allen can get on the end of a couple of majors this week.

HILLSIDE v KEILOR

Sunday 4.40pm @ Hillside Reserve

This game could be closer than anticipated, with both teams coming off heavy losses in Round 8.

The Sharks could be aided by the consistently great ball-use of Brooke McIntyre and goal kicking of Nikita Wright.

The two combined in Round 8 to kick their team’s goals and will need to do so again this week.

This could be a challenging task, as they will come up against a Keilor outfit who will undoubtedly be hungry to bounce back from a 94-point loss in Round 8.

Although it was a dour welcome, the Blues did welcome back last year’s premiership captain, Emily Law into their Round 8 side, and she made an immediate impact after being named amongst the best players.

Unsurprisingly, current captain, Christie Roberts led the way in the loss, being a pivotal figure in the ruck.

She could have that same dominance this week as she will be going up against a Sharks outfit that aren’t one of the taller teams in the EDFL Women’s competition.

Expect this game to be won and lost in the midfield, as both teams look to surge forward and bounce back from a loss.
