Round 8 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Division 2

By LIAM McALLION

Coburg Districts v Jacana

THIS is one of the biggest match-ups in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 history, with the two most in-form teams going head-to-head.

Since gaining Cam Cloke, the Jags have not lost and have been putting huge scores on the board, but will come across a team who still has not lost all year in the Lions, making for a high-scoring, strong-willed battle.

With powerhouses Cloke and the Lions’ Luke Vesnaver, the possibilities up forward this week are endless.

The two have already combined for 57 goals so far this season.

Defence is said to win games and this week it must be stepped up.

Both teams average more than 10 different goal kickers a game, showing how versatile they are and this will be the closest and most skilful match-up we’ve had all season.

Roxburgh Park v Moonee Valley

After a fiery battle in Round 1, players will want to again lift to get their team over the line in this fierce rivalry.

Loui Oppedisano has built each week for the Fog after leaving the enemy and will again win many hard contests, putting his body on the line for his team.

Great leaders and midfield weapons of the Fog's Ned Wilson and Magpies’ Harley Short, will make for a thrilling battle as their heart and toughness around the ground will be on display.

The similar game styles of bigger bodies to win the ball and speed out of the backline should entice fans and make for another close encounter.

East Sunbury v Burnside Heights

The battle of the EDFL's newest teams will set a high standard and a chance for them to prove how much they have improved in a short period of time.

Run and carry out of the backline and along the wings will be a part of many highlights in this game.

The deadly combination of size and pace in these areas from Burnside Heights’ Logan Clegg will create problems for East Sunbury.

However, agility and aerial ability from the Thunder's Tom Burnside will lift their side in the forward half and build a presence and option from runners.

Switched play and classy ball-use will come about from these teams’ speed and create for an interesting match-up.

Northern Saints v Keilor Park

After very different games on the weekend both the Northern Saints and Keilor Park will want to lift and their similar game styles will make for a must-see match-up.

Being quick, long and direct is a tactic many teams go by but is highlighted and prominent through speed bursts from Eliot Kako for the Saints and the Devils’ John-Carlo Ravanello.

So we’ll see a quick game of footy.

This quick style of play and long entries will supply the forwards with plenty of opportunities.

The Devils will come out firing as they always do, for the love of their club, and the Saints will want to continue their form and put on a show for their home fans.

Thrilling battle ahead.
