Round 6 Preview (Part 1) - EDFL Women's

By JULIA MONTESANO

ROXBURGH PARK v SUNBURY LIONS

Friday 7pm @ Lakeside Oval

ROXBURGH Park came off a convincing performance against the previously winless Hillside.

Reigning best-and-fairest, Tricia Devine has continued from where she left off last year, putting in some stellar performances for the Magpies.

Her sister, Bianca has also been playing some good football for Roxburgh Park, after making the move across from Glenroy, where she played last year.

Emma Cranston, who comes from a basketball background, is also making an impact with the Sherrin for the Magpies.

But her side comes up against an experienced brigade in the Sunbury Lions, who are coming off a 52-point win over Avondale Heights/Taylors Lakes.

Expect the likes of Simone Craige, Sera Catania and Laura Giles to put in convincing performances under lights at Lakeside Oval.

Roxburgh Park’s defence will really need to stand up in this game, as the Lions often employ multiple goal-kickers to get scores on the board.

SUNBURY KANGAROOS v HILLSIDE

Friday 7:30pm @ Eric Boardman Reserve

The Sunbury Kangaroos would be coming into this game hungry for a victory after a narrow loss to the Panthers in Round 5.

It was once again Bailee Said who was named the best by her coaches for the Kangaroos, as she continues to dominate for Sunbury.

Last year’s AFL Goldfields Open Aged Women’s Coach of the Year, Danielle Green, has also been playing some consistent football and is a wonderful leader for the mixed-age side.

Her brigade comes up against the Sharks, who are fresh off their second competition victory.

Brittany McIntyre was one of the stars of that game and has been one of the stars of the season.

McIntyre has kicked six goals from five games for the Sharks and could have an impact again at Eric Boardman Reserve.

Fiona Pazsa and Caetlyn Twentyman have also been consistent performers for the Sharks and both kicked goals in their 14-point win over the Magpies in Round 5.

PASCOE VALE v ABERFELDIE

Saturday 10am @ Raeburn Reserve

Pascoe Vale is playing some electric football at the moment and seems unstoppable, sitting on five straight wins at the top of the ladder.

But it ran into trouble in Round 5, only narrowly escaping with a win against the in-form Kangaroos.

This wouldn’t worry the Panthers though, as they come into this game with a forward line that is on fire.

Siobhan Carlton is the competition’s joint leading goal-kicker, as she’s kicked 18 goals from just five matches this year.

She has been complemented by Elana Lilla, who has kicked nine goals from five matches and Emma Westgarth, who has booted through eight majors in just four games.

But Aberfeldie has a forward of its own who has been in solid form inside 50.

Keilor premiership player, Sophie Fazzolari is coming off a three-goal performance in her side’s 74-point win against Strathmore.

This takes her up to fifth on the goal-kicking tally, as she’s kicked 10 goals from four games.

KEILOR PARK v BURNSIDE HEIGHTS

Saturday 2:20pm @ Keilor Park Reserve

The Devils have not played footy since April, with the team having a bye in Round 5.

They’ll need all the fresh legs they can possibly get, as Burnside Heights has been playing some fantastic football in the competition.

The Bears’ most recent win was a 66-point victory over Westmeadows.

They had nine goal-kickers on the day which included one of the competition’s most dominant forwards.

Brooke McKinley has been electric inside 50, kicking seven goals in Round 1 and backing it up with six goals in Round 2 to have her soaring ahead in the goal-kicking tally.

She is now the joint leading goal-kicker with 18 majors for the year so far.

For Keilor Park, the standout players include the likes of Sara Imela, Samantha German and Bridgette Gwynne, who have put in solid efforts for their side week in, week out.

The Devils will definitely be excited to get back to playing footy and playing at their home ground gives them a chance to really contest the high-flying Burnside Heights.
