Round 5 Preview (Part 1) - Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division

By ADEM SARICAOGLU

AVONDALE HEIGHTS v GLENROY (Radio Game) - Selected Squads

THIS is going to be a cracker of a game and luckily for both clubs, it occurs in a split round with only one other Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division clash going up against it.

Both Avondale Heights and Glenroy have a win their name so far this season (both were against Essendon Doutta Stars) and haven’t disgraced themselves against the division’s heavyweights.

Their new big three of ex-Carlton stars Cameron Wood, Dennis Armfield and Ciaran Sheehan have all stepped up so far this season and the likes of Mathew Cravino and Scott Clouston have also played their roles well.

It’s the support cast around their top end talent that is letting the Heights down.

Coming into this one, we need to see the likes of Charlie Nastasi, Jake Edwards and Sam Zito show that they can step up when needed and contribute on a consistent basis.

On the flipside we’ve seen Glenroy adjust to life in the top flight very nicely.

The Roys pushed Strathmore all the way on ANZAC Day and their forward line is a formidable one.

They’re currently the fourth highest-scoring team in Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division while Avondale Heights is eighth, so the midfield battle will be crucial, which should advantage the Heights.

If Glenroy’s forward entries are on target, though, they should be able to outscore the home side.

MARIBYRNONG PARK v STRATHMORE - Selected Squads

The Mores have been somewhat inconsistent so far this season.

They got the win they needed on ANZAC Day but struggled more than many would have expected them to.

Against Pascoe Vale the week before, Strathmore had no answer for Matthew Watson and Lachie Hansen as the Panthers kicked clear after quarter time to register a comfortable 55-point win.

Nathan Grima’s on-field return will be a very handy boost but while Hamish McIntosh and Nick Lower are out of the line-up, Strathmore’s questionable depth is going to be up against it when facing the division’s premiership contenders.

Here the Mores will don the white shorts against the best team of Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division.

Maribyrnong Park is the current front-runner after putting together a perfect month to start its 2018 campaign.

With playing coach Robbie Castello still unsighted on game day, the Lions have been clinical and professional in each of their first four games of the year.

When tested against Pascoe Vale last week, Marby’s growing list of A-graders rose to the occasion and got the job done in a fashion good teams should.

The true litmus test comes now, as the Lions have a tough month ahead on the fixture.
