Round 4 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Division 2

By ADEM SARICAOGLU

EAST SUNBURY v NORTHERN SAINTS - Radio Game

EAST Sunbury has well and truly arrived in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2.

The Thunder is on top of the ladder and remains undefeated after getting the Roxburgh Park monkey off its back in Round 3.

Brad Bernacki has slotted in very nicely and only adds to what is already the most exciting midfield in the division.

Here the Thunder comes up against perhaps the most exciting overall side of the division in the Northern Saints.

They’re coming off a surprisingly large loss at home to Moonee Valley and will be looking to bounce back in style on the EDFL Match of the Day stage.

In good conditions on the wide expanses of John McMahon Reserve, expect this to be a cracker.

It’ll be Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 footy at its finest.

MOONEE VALLEY v BURNSIDE HEIGHTS

Ormond Park is going to play host to a showdown of power forwards at either end of the ground – Jordie Faba v Josh Covelli.

Faba snagged six in the Fog’s big win over the Northern Saints, while Covelli shot to second spot on the Strathmore Community Bank Division 2 goal kicking table with a lazy nine against Hadfield.

The Bears needed that win over the Hawks to show the EDFL world they truly have improved in year two under Aidan Stott, but need to continue that form and not undo all that in this one.

That doesn’t mean getting a win, as Moonee Valley are hot early so far this season.

All they need to do here is stay competitive for four quarters and push Shanon Carroll’s men as close as they can.

All things being equal, Moonee Valley will get the win, but the Fog should not be banking on it all being easy going come Saturday.

HADFIELD v COBURG DISTRICTS

Two sides that are yet to have a win in 2018, but one is clearly the favourite here.

Coburg Districts had a week off to digest their shock 0-2 start to the year, and you’d be expecting Chris Tankard to dish out some punishment on the Hawks as a result.

With largely the same side that got to last year’s grand final, the Lions have been down on their usual output in their opening two games, but it must be said that both losses came in close, hard-fought games.

The Round 3 bye was probably ideal, giving Coburg Districts a chance to hit the reset button with plenty of time to get things back on track, and the fixture gods looked after them here.

Unfortunately, it seems Hadfield is the current favourite to claim the wooden spoon after failing to keep up with Burnside Heights last week.

Their best hope in this one against a hungry Lions outfit is to find something extra special on home soil.
