Round 3 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Division 2

By LIAM McALLION

Moonee Valley v Northern Saints

TOUGH losses for both teams in Round 2 will make for a fiery game, and players from both teams will do anything to get back on the winners list.

And following good wins in Round 1, consistency will be in question for the team who loses in this match-up.

Getting over the line on Saturday is a must for both teams as they try to establish themselves as genuine contenders in Strathmore Community Bank Division 2.

Around the ground disposal with high efficiency and impact on the scoreboard from Moonee Valley’s Trent Gleisner and the Saints’ Eliot Kako will make for a thrilling contest.

Both teams have a great combination of quick small players and big, high-marking key players, which will hopefully result in a fast-paced, high-scoring and highlight-filled game.

Jacana v Keilor Park

A big Round 2 win for Jacana and Cam Cloke's first game at home for the Jaguars will bring another vocal and jam-packed crowd.

But with Keilor Park yet to make an impact with two losses to their name, the Devils will want to step up and regain some respect back to their senior team.

Jacana's style of play to get the ball long and direct as quick as possible with big bodies down both ends will contrast well with some speed around the ground for the Devils.

This will be evident across half back through the run-and-carry of Kris Thomas for the Devils and the spoiling and intercept marking of Billy Morrison for the Jaguars.

Jacana wanting to impose themselves on the division will again be a big talking point as this game develops.

Yet the emotion and type of play Keilor Park have played with will hopefully show that they are up for the challenge and not scared to take on a team with a big recruit.

We could have highlights galore in this one.

Burnside Heights v Coburg Districts

The 0-2 Burnside Heights will be fired up and will want to be as competitive as they were in Round 1 against the Thunder.

Their challenge will be to show that against Coburg Districts and, unlike their last game against the Magpies, stay competitive for four quarters.

Coburg Districts is flying at this stage and will want to continue that hot form and build some confidence that it can beat anyone in the division after a dominant display against the Fog.

After critics around the EDFL world questioned the build-up of Josh Covelli, he has so far already kicked eight goals in two games for the Bears.

He’ll be hoping for a goal-for-goal shoot-out with Callum Atkinson – also a big presence in the opposing forward line.

Roxburgh Park v East Sunbury (5pm Start)

A twilight game to commemorate ANZAC Day will bring in many of the locals as both teams battle out under lights.

It will hopefully make for a good atmosphere in front of a large crowd.

Class and speed from East Sunbury will contrast well with the Magpies’ bigger bodies, who will likely be beaten on the ground but not in the air.

This type of Thunder game style is shown through yet another young gun from their Under 19.5 side in Lachlan Brne, who along with Tom Cree is showing the growth and skill East Sunbury is producing up through the age groups.

The Thunder riding on possession from these younger players will contrast with the forward presence of Reece Tarczon, who is coming off an eight-goal game for the Magpies and will want to bag many more.

Both teams have had a promising start to the season will want to continue that here.
