Round 14 Preview - Essendon Ford Division 1

By JACOB MANZIE

OAK PARK v AIRPORT WEST

THIS is one of the biggest games of the season for Airport West so far.

They gave away their fourth spot to Taylors Lakes, so a loss here would make it very difficult to come back from if Taylors Lakes are to win their game.

It definitely isn’t going to be easy either, as they travel to JP Fawkner Reserve to take on Oak Park in what should be a thriller.

Sitting in sixth spot, two games off their rival this week, it would show good signs if the Kangaroos could defeat Airport West, who are badly out of form after losing four out of their last five games.

That is not what the Eagles want in this half of the year.

The run home is tough for the Eagles and if they are able to grab the points here, their final hopes may still be alive.

WESTMEADOWS v HILLSIDE

Westmeadows haven’t been able to match it with the best sides this season.

Let’s see how it unfolds for them on their home deck this weekend.

Losing their last three, they would love to get the four points here and cause an upset against one of the best in the competition in Hillside.

Coming off a bye last weekend might also give them the boost they need to come out strong from the first bounce.

However, Hillside haven’t really looked like dropping a game.

Winning their last five pretty comfortably, they will be confident and their form is clearly where it needs to be.

Although they will make finals comfortably this year, they still have something to play for.

That is making the top two and securing a double chance, which they would love to take into the finals.

EAST KEILOR v TAYLORS LAKES

This will most likely be game of the round.

Both sides come off good wins last week and the confidence will be evident.

Taylors Lakes have found some great form at the right time of the Essendon Ford Division 1 season, and if they can keep it running into late August, they could cause a few upsets.

However, East Keilor proved they could match it with some of the better sides in the competition, beating Airport West at Hansen Reserve last week.

It definitely gives them some good hope for the 2018 season.

After their win last week, the Lions kicked Airport West out of fourth spot and now sit a game ahead.

With a relatively easier run home than Airport West, a win this week could cement their finals campaign.

HADFIELD v TULLAMARINE

A game in which we may see a different Tullamarine outfit if they choose to rest some players, which wouldn’t be the worst idea with finals not too far away.

Hadfield is yet to get its first win and will look to cause the upset, however they may find it difficult against a strong side in Tullamarine.

The Demons will be full of confidence as well.

After beating top-of-the-table Glenroy in a thriller last week, they definitely have the calibre to win on the big stage this year.

The form of some Hadfield players shows some good signs for the Hawks, with Harley Ferguson, Steven Angus, Patrick Fairhead and Jacob McKerchar all starring on numerous occasions.
