Round 12 Preview - Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division

By JACOB MANZIE

KEILOR v STRATHMORE (Radio Game)

THIS is the season on the line for Keilor.

To have any chance to make the finals, the Blues must win this game.

But Strathmore won’t go down easy.

If Strathmore win, it will place them two games clear of Keilor in fifth, making it difficult to come back from.

After defeating Greenvale last week by 19 points, Strathmore has now beaten all three teams that stand in their way on the ladder and makes them a very hard team to come up against when the season is on the line.

The experience of Strathmore’s recruits stood out last week and it will be important again in order to grab the points.

But Keilor will definitely be hungry after last week’s disappointing loss to Aberfeldie.

It showed that they didn’t have much avenue to goal and they will certainly want to change this week if they are any hope of keeping their final hopes alive.

AVONDALE HEIGHTS v ABERFELDIE

Another big game in the context of the season.

Avondale Heights have found their winning ways and we will get to see how good they really are when they come up against a strong Aberfeldie side.

The midfield of Aberfeldie proved too strong against Keilor last week as Josh Cubillo and Josh Toy showed their class.

Their vaunted back line also stood up, only allowing Keilor to kick a total of four goals.

But, the Abers back six will have to be on their toes with the likes of Patrick Rose and Matthew Williamson - who have kicked 25 goals between them in the last three weeks – in form for Avondale Heights.

If Avondale Heights come out like they have in the past few weeks, they will put Aberfeldie to the sword and this game will go right down to the wire.

GREENVALE v WEST COBURG

West Coburg have showed plenty of fight against some of the best teams in the competition this year, but haven’t been able to get over the line.

Greenvale have proved too strong for many, but after receiving their second loss for the season on the weekend to Strathmore, they do have some weaknesses.

West Coburg will be on top of that.

But the travel to Section Road is tough and with Greenvale’s well-drilled outfit proving it plays its home deck to a tea, West Coburg will have to be on in order to take the points.

There is no doubt it is possible, though, as they got within three goals of Maribyrnong Park last weekend.

But with Aberfeldie now sitting on the same points, Greenvale will be eager to get back on the winners list and shut down Digby Morrell’s men.

PASCOE VALE v MARIBYRNONG PARK

Another good game to keep an eye on, as Maribyrnong Park got a little shaky last weekend and Pascoe Vale are coming off a big win.

So it could get interesting.

Dean Soncin has been undoubtedly one of Pascoe Vale’s best players this season, and he will be needed if the Panthers are any chance of an upset here.

One problem however, is that they are at home.

Sitting third on the Strathmore Community Bank Premier Division ladder, Maribyrnong Park have showed the rest of the competition that they are definitely strong contenders.

But if they have an off day, it could go either way.

CRAIGIEBURN v ESSENDON DOUTTA STARS

It has been a very tough year for Craigieburn and one full of ups and downs for Essendon Doutta Stars.

It will be interesting to see if Craigieburn can grab their first win for the season here.

After losing last week to Avondale Heights, the back end of the season hasn’t been too flash from Essendon Doutta Stars.

Craigieburn started well last week against Pascoe Vale, going into the first break up by a point and they showed some positive signs.

With Douttas stuck on four wins… is there any chance of an upset in what could be an exciting match to watch?

It should be certain, though, that the experience within the Essendon Doutta Stars’ squad can shut it down and stay in control of the game, and if they can keep it on their terms they should be able to take home the win.
