Glenroy 2.4-16 def. by Pascoe Vale 11.5-71

PASCOE Vale recorded their first win of the season at Sewell Reserve, thanks to a great display of teamwork, consistency and determination. Under new coach Sam Scollo, the Panthers looked rejuvenated, kicking their way towards victory. Even though the Roys were pretty competitive in the first term, they couldn’t keep up with Pascoe Vale’s momentum, as they led at the first change by 25 points. The Panthers’ goal-kicking was one of the most accurate displays of the season, as the girls kicked just five behinds to back up their 11 goals. This was thanks to two goals each from four separate players in Jesse George, Stephanie Normington-Dickens, Emma Westgarth and Bianca Torrijos. Best-on-ground Renae Berry was wonderful for Pascoe Vale all day, contributing a goal off her own boot and helping her team record an impressive 55-point win over fellow EDFL team, Glenroy.

Glen Orden 3.4-22 def. by Roxburgh Park 7.4-46

It was a great day for the Magpies on Sunday, as the girls celebrated their first win of the season. Roxburgh Park have had a tough start to the season, coming up against formidable opponents in Keilor and Glenroy in the first two rounds. Two goals from captain, Cheree Spowart helped the Magpies record a 23-point win in what was one of the most hotly contested matches in Round 3. She was complemented by two goals from Tricia Devine and one goal from Emily Thurau-Clayton. Danielle David chipped in with a goal for the Hawks, but it wasn’t enough, as they succumbed to a motivated Roxy outfit. It was a much-needed win for Roxburgh Park, after losing by 185 points in Round 1 and 76 points in Round 2. Away from home, the Magpies defied the odds and kick-started their winning ways in the competition.

Craigieburn 1.3-9 def. by Sunbury 6.11-47

It was the battle of the undefeated at Highgate as both Sunbury and Craigieburn looked to capitalise on their perfect start to the season. However, the Eagles’ unbeaten start came to an abrupt end as the Lions continued to show their dominance in the competition, recording an impressive win away from home. Natalie East was awarded best-on-ground, complementing another great performance by Simone Craige. It was a cohesive display of experience shown by the Lions, which was too much to handle for Craigieburn in the end, as they were kept to just one goal for the whole game. Despite being goalless themselves in the last quarter, Sunbury still prevailed with a convincing win to continue to build on their positive start to the season. The Lions remain undefeated for the season after the 38-point win over the Eagles.

Keilor 7.9-51 def. Manors Lakes 1.4-10

Keilor have done it again, recording another massive win to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Brooke Todero was again the leading goal-scorer for the Blues, kicking two goals to back up her seven-goal performance in Round 2. The star of the day was Jill McBain, who contributed to Keilor’s third-straight victory with a goal and her tireless efforts all day. Despite another great win for the Blues, it was their lowest score for the season, as they scored less than 100 points for the first time in the competition - a stat that wouldn’t worry them too much. The Keilor girls wore pink socks in the match against Manor Lakes, recognising breast cancer awareness week. But the new attire proved no barrier for the Blues, as the girls showed the same honourable fighting spirit as the many women out there fighting that horrible disease.

Caroline Springs 12.11-83 def. Tarneit 1.2-8

Caroline Springs put on a dominant performance for their first home match of the season against a helpless Tarneit outfit. The girls were relentless right from the beginning, kicking five goals in the first quarter, already putting it beyond the Titans’ reach. The girls recorded their biggest win of the season thanks to some great work from Carissa Whiley and Cassie Wilson. But the star of the show was again Anthea Stathakis, who booted a massive six goals to give the Lakers a 75-point win. Stathakis kicked Caroline Springs’ only two goals against the VU Western Spurs in their loss last week and continued to write her own script this week. The Titans, on the other hand, still remain winless for the season. Tarneit managed a goal in the last quarter but the damage was already done by then, with Caroline Springs proving their worth in the competition.
