Match Report | Tullamarine v Taylors Lakes

Demons Cruise Past Lions

By AKSHAY KAPADIA

LAST week, Taylors Lakes overcame a spirited Hadfield side to win their second game of the season; while Tullamarine had the bye after their win over Glenroy in Round 1.

This week, the Lions travelled to Tullamarine as both teams sat on eight points heading into the third round.

This was going to be a test for Taylors Lakes, to prove that they have what it takes to make the finals and break into the top four.

The first quarter started well for Tullamarine as they kicked the first two goals of the game, the first one coming from Colin Laurie; before a goal to Bekim Memedi started the Lions scoring.

Unfortunately for Taylors Lakes, they could not make use of the wind in the first quarter as they ended only four points behind the pace, while Tulla missed some chances throughout the quarter.

Joshua McPherson kicked the first goal of the second quarter for Taylors Lakes out of a free kick from the centre.

But for the rest of the quarter it was all one way as the Demons piled on an unanswered 7.1, with Jack Sims and Sean Doyle both kicking pairs in this passage of play.

This gave Tullamarine a 41-point lead going into the long break.

Sims kicked his third and fourth goals in the third quarter, giving Tulla a 47-point lead.

The breeze was once again in favour of Taylors Lake, but they could not take advantage of it the same way Tullamarine did in the second quarter.

This left the margin at three-quarter time at 47 points, and it was beginning to show that the Lions could not compete with the many of the Demons’ stars.

The fourth quarter was a formality as the Demons were able to push their lead up to 61 points by the end of the game.

Taylors Lakes were simply not up to the standard shown by the Demons in what was a very physical game with bodies put on the line.

Next week, Tullamarine head out to Craigieburn in what is a top-of-the-table clash, while Taylors Lakes host the Northern Saints, in what should be much-needed percentage boost for them.
